The saying in moments like these goes, I believe, "The king is dead, long live the king". Well ... not applicable in this case, as his daughter - even if assuming the crown, has very little credibility in comparison to her predecessors, mostly due to a poor choice of a spouse (some even belie prince Duda to have been a former "securitate" officer). All in all, the king's life was a sad tale of executive impotency in a youth overshadowed by Stalin, a long and hard exile, and ulterior rejection by his people - brain washed by the post communist which in essence was still communist apparatus. There was a glance of hope in 1992, but the former Securitate officers and the controversial Ion Iliescu - the first post communist president, were so scared of the strength of the symbol the king embodied that they exiled him a second time.
The funeral procession was long, yesterday, and he gathered millions of Romanians around his coffin literally. While he never managed to be the strong leader in office, the leader he wished to be during his life time, he managed to be a very strong leading figure defined by dignity - something, unfortunately my people lack especially when it comes to the political class. God rest the soul of the king that managed to unite us in death, above and beyond what the entire corrupt political class has managed to do over the past 28 years since the fall of communism.
