Just curious as to what everyone prefers, or if it's more of a "I'll take what my favorite blend comes in" type of mentality.
Shag? Ribbon? Flake? Plug? Rope? Cake? etc...
Personally, I am still deciding on my favorite type as this is still fairly new to me, and I am leaning more towards shag and ribbon as they are easier and, in my experience, a little more forgiving for the pipe novice. I am however branching out and trying more flakes and cakes. Just wondering how everyone falls on this spectrum. Cheers!

I'd try shag, ribbon, crumble kake, and flake. Flake is the one I love the most. Simple, easy to burn, easy to store, and look dastardly good :D

anyone else find when smoking ribbon(thin ribbon especially) that you get a weird vibration in the stem because a piece is vibrating in the stem? Not sure why this happens but I assume it is a ribbon stuck or something else. Makes my teeth cringe like someone is scratching their nails on a chalkboard. I do like how a ribbon smokes however.

Depending on the tobacco, in no particular order since I like them all: coarse cut, flake, curly cut, & cube (burley specifically).

I like variety, so every cut known to Man can be found in my cellar. That said, I prefer pressed varieties over loose cuts.

I would have to say ropes are my favorite. But i also love plugs and flakes. Ropes and plugs are so versatile.

Give me flake cut any day. Ribbon/shag cut burn far too fast for me.
A typical pipe filled with flake will last me an hour whereas the same pipe filled with ribbon will last me 20 minutes if I'm lucky.
Regards,
Jay.

Flake and coin are my favourite but often carry something like a Dunhill Virginia ribbon for ease on the move.
