Picked this estate Stanwell a couple weeks ago. I do love my apple/brandy shapes... or maybe it is a squashed tomato. Either way it fits nicely in the hand. The other cool thing about this pipe is that it is fitted for a 9mm filter. I bought some Vaun filters and a few Savinelli balsa inserts. I have been curious about filters for a while now. It will be interesting to try a tobacco with and without a filter or balsa insert.

So what is your opinion on filters/inserts?

That's a beautiful pipe, DPK.
The only filter I use anymore are the Brigham tubes, but I am interested in your take on the Sav balsa inserts.

Nice pipe. Congrats. I do have a couple of pipes with charcoal filters and I dedicate those pipes to aromatics. Armoatics burnt me to hell until I started smoking them in filtered pipes. I still get a pleasant taste with no scorch.

Great Stanwell! Curious to hear how the filters work for you. My very first pipe was a no name made in Italy that took the Savinelli triangle balsa filters. I used the pack of filters then never used them again.

Great looking pipe, congrats on your new addition. I have had 6mm and 9 mm pipes and found they all smoked great without the filters. My theory is that a filter will take away from the flavor of a blend, but that is just me.

And when it comes to most aromatics (which I only smoke to please the wife), I am grateful that the filters do just that.
