I have never handled one of these bags but heard good things about them. Received my first one today and was wondering if they usually come vacuum sealed? I was expecting a more solid feel like maybe how ground coffee is sold off the shelf. There's definitely a lot of air/space in the bag and when they went to seal the top of the bag they did not align the corners and it looks very sloppily done. Is this normal or do I have another reason to go out and buy more jars

Yeah, that's just how they look. Supposedly they're pretty solid long-term. But being paranoid, I've jarred all my Esoterica tobacco anyway.

I don't believe they're vacuum sealed; manufacturers are divided on the value of that.
I've had bags that were cellared for six years without any issues. I know that some swell up, just as some aged tins will start to bulge over time, but the seals have held.

I guess i didn't really know what to expect and if the ends of the bag looked like they were lined up a little neater I wouldn't have thought much about the air space. Thanks for the info, I'm just going to toss the bag in a drawer.

I was pretty surprised at how small the bags are too upon getting them, but it looks like a very good seal and quality bag plus I read that they use 3 layers for the bag so I'm leaving mine until I open it and then transfer it. I'm not at all concerned about the seal looking at it.

I have four bags, all a couple of years old. 2 are "loose" and two are vacuum packed. I was always puzzled as well. They all arrived that way and all are Penzance. I watch E-bay a lot and it seems the fluffy bags are the most common. I have a hunch these are all vacuum at the plant and like a previous poster said, they ferment or off-gas and swell the bag a bit?

You can still get Esoterica bags at a few places, no penzance or stonehaven of course that I know of, but this place has quite a few of ones like dubar and ramsgate that I haven't seen at other places, but it's 40$ a bag.

So do your price comparisons obviously between sites.
