Add Blue Mountain to the suggestions.

Peterson's Old Dublin. SG Squadron Leader,if you can find it.

I love Penzance and Larry's Blend, but I would not recommend them as a first latakia blend.
Whatever you try, take your time with it. Blends like this are a lot different then aros. And enjoy.

Try GL Pease's Westminster or McConnell's Scottish Blend. Not all English blends are of the same flavor ith some being heavier than others. Westminster is readily available while Penzance, another great blend, is sold out everywhere right now. One of the defining ingrdients, Latakia tobacco, is what adds to the mild or bold characteristic and is what many smokers use as the like/dislike factor in English blends. I found Westminster and Penzance to be a good milder blends. When and if Squadron Leader ever becomes available again I want to get a tin or two. The McConnell's Scottish Blend is stronger in flavor because of the Latakia, but is another favorite of my English/Scottish/Balkan type blends. Jud made a good point...take your time smoking these because they have a completely different structure than an aromatic and are more complex. Also, many English type blends ill not stand up to hot and heavy puffing...they ill become very harsh and your tongue will feel it, too. Take your time and 'sip' these blends; you'll find your own smoking pace ith them and discover hy so many of us love these great blends. I also have a tin of Old Dublin on the way so I'll be trying that out this weekend. The great thing about being a pipe smoker today is the myriad of blends to try and the availability of great blends for sale on the internet. Happy smoking to ya!

all the above suggestions are excellent...but you should try Penzance first.

Larry's Blend, Penzance, and Spartan's English are the three I've tried and they are all very good.

Boswell Pipes and Tobaccos have some good mild English blends. My favorites are Magnum Blend and Northwoods but Mild English is a good one, too.

My current Fav is Magnum Opus, flavorful and light. Next up, Blue Mountain, which I would say is sublty different from Black House, but similar. When I can get it, I like Sterling 1776 Tavern Blend, and of course Penzance which is by far the best ever. And I always have some Dunhill 965 around, a little stronger than the formers on this list, but I like nostalgia. Gotta try some Walnut, and I have tin of Nightcap that I have been saving....

I neglected to mention HH Vintage Syrian by MacBaren. This is a very fine blend, using Syrian latakia, not the Cyprian used in most such blends. It is a subtler blend then some of these others, but well worth your time.
There are literally hundreds of latakia blends out there. I would recommend, however, if you are new to this part of the journey, to have a pipe or pipes dedicated to latakia blends - you will get some ghosting.

And I am going to say it again. Take your time with these. They are a much different critter than aros or drugstore burleys. I would not recommend using a latakia "bomb" like Penzance for your first experience with it - you might be overwhelmed. It is excellent, but not a blend for somebody used to Lane 1-Q. This is not to pick on that blend, or on any blend, or on people that smoke them - just to let you know that this is a different world.
