Manuf. by Lane, date code on bottom is F1211

It's a paper tube "can" with foil laminate sides and metal top/bottom, like the H&H 8oz. cans. I'm willing to bet that it's dessicated. Should I pop it open?

woodsroad, is ERR a blend you've smoked when it was still being manufactured? If so, how long has it been? I've only been smoking for two years, so I can't experience these nostalgia smokes in quite the same way. Although, the ERR Match does make me think of my childhood -- maybe I used to be around someone who smoked it.

Nope, never smoked it before. I've heard good things about it, and thought it would be fun to give it a try.

Was anyone here an Edgeworth Ready Rubbed fan, in it's day? The Lane version that I have is the blend's third iteration. It was first produced by Larus and Brother Company in Virginia from the 1912 until 1968.

"In 1903, Larus introduced its Edgeworth trademark. Edgeworth Sliced tobacco, the first nationally advertised pipe tobacco, came packaged in sliced form instead of the more conventional plug form. Nine years later, Edgeworth Ready-Rubbed was introduced as the first pipe tobacco ready for smoking, as it came pre-sliced and “rubbed,” or broken into smaller pieces. Edgeworth quickly became America’s best-selling pipe tobacco in its price class."

Rothman's shut down the aged Richmond, Va plant in 1974, and production was farmed out. At some point, Lane aquired the brand and produced ready Rubbed up until...?
I'll spark some up tomorrow.

When I was a kid my dad's friend used to smoke a homemade blend of ERR, Amphora and (I think) Three Nuns. I tried his blend when I was in college. It wasn't bad. But never smoked ERR by itself.
