My son presented me with my early Christmas gift: a Storient from their new line. He had asked me some questions to discern which shape I'd like and came through perfectly. I have several more photos in this albumif you're interested in looking.

I forgot to include my break in smoke
nice!
That's awesome!
What are those little holes at the bottom of the bowl near the stem?
Congrats it is a beautiful pipe!
Mick, those are carved decorative "rosettes". I didn't notice them in the photos on Storient's website so they were a surprise when I opened it. I think I like them...now.
Oooooooooh. Interesting little touch. Be sure to update this thread with photos when the colour starts to change.
It definitely was! And I plan on updating. Funny thing my wife said tonight "you keep puffing at 'whitey' like you have been and it won't be white fir long". She just shook her head when I told her that was the plan.
what a great son you have there... thats a beautiful pipe.
He must be a great kid.
Enjoy the pipe my friend!
Great looking pipe! I am really liking that stem!
Great lookin' Storient! BTW, is that stem rubber or acrylic? Or are they all variations of vulcanite rubber?
Awesome gift.. Enjoy!!

Roth, it's lucite. I'm looking forward to what it'll look like when it's color takes hold with that vanilla stem. Ought to be a real looker IMO.
Most beautiful! Congrats, Greg.
I like that one!
That's a wonderful gift!!
That looks nice with that stem, should make it even better after it darkens.
Another great looking Storient! That's a thoughtful gift.
Congratulations on your early Christmas gift. I hope you can enjoy it for many years to come.
Storient meers=VERY nice pipes....Congrats and many years of good smokin to ya...
Very Nice. Gratz!
Thought I'd toss out a update pic showing the coloring process.

It's going pretty evenly I think, with the shank starting to show just a tad more color now than the bowl.
Thanks for posting those pix. A meerschaum in the process of being colored is one of the most fascinating things in this hobby.
Coming along nicely!
Greg, I am curious -- is the stem on your Storient rubber/vulcanite or plastic/lucite? I still am not sure if I understood Yavuz correctly when he was explaining the various stem options on Storient pipes. I thought he said the stems were all different colors but all are vulcanite cumberland rod ...?
Roth, I'm almost certain it is acrylic; it doesn't have the comfort of rubber IMO. I do, however, think the color of the stem will contrast nicely with the pipe over time (personally I don't know about the reds, blues, etc, not my taste I reckon) so the little less comfort and the durability is an okay trade off in my mind.
Cortez, I agree completely. Neat to be able to document it (so easily) and share with other enthusiasts.
It looks wonderful. I have a forum pipe on the way myself, and I have the vanilla stem on mine as well.
That is so cool,I love it...

+1
After cleaning if this morning, I thought I'd share a color-progression photo.
Nice looking pipe and it's coloring very nicely too. Congrats!

The color is coming along nicely
Very nice Pipe! & thanks for the repost with the tobacco. Have to go to my mother-in-laws this weekend, about an hour outside Gatlinburg, now I have something to do!

Thought it was time for a photo update. I am applying beeswax for the first time tonight so here are the last photos before I do so:
Tomorrow I'll try to add another if I see a significant difference after waxing.
Thanks for posting Greg. Lovely to see the colour coming up on your pipe.

Beautiful for sure
What a pipe, I think that stem will look even nicer on there when you have more color.
Looks great Greg!
Beautiful, I think it's coloring perfectly!
Thank you guys for the nice remarks.
I chose the stem color with the forward thought of how it would look over time as the block colors. I think it's starting to pay off now. What was originally an all stark white pipe is now looking very good, IMHO. The wax did make some difference: the color is better and it's nice to have the shine back.
BEAUTIFUL!! One question, it seems to be coloring very nicely and evenly. How are you holding it when smoking?

Firstly, thank you. I, too, am somewhat surprised at his evenly it is coloring. The area where the Teflon tenon is in the shank is the I my area not coloring as well, IMO, and I actually was expecting that might happen.
I always hold it by the stem. I try to never let it tough anything when it is warm either. I always set it in one of my leather pipe rests which has beeswax on it so there's no chance of "contaminating" it; I make (and sell) them so I know for sure what's on them! LOL Here's an example of some I've made:
Wow Greg that is one hell of a wax job you did. It looks so deep in color it looks like the shape of the pipe changed. You even did the stem. WOW.

Beautiful pipe - great kid, understanding wife - what more could you ask for?

Now I see, didn't even notice it before. Kinda like my handlebar moustache, if I comment that one side is curled more one day someone will notice more LOL.
I have seen your pipe rests, pretty cool
my birthday is this month so maybe it will be something I ask for.
Very cool pipe OP. I have to say that I really like the way this one looks. I am more into the smoother bowled models vs. the claws and things (lattice is growing on me some), but I really like the look of the flowering accents on your pipe. It adds flavor and character to the pipe without detracting from the overall look and "vibe" the pipe has. The white stem adds a lot IMO as well.
Certainly overall a beautiful pipe IMO. Congrats on such a nice present and coloring progression you have made thus far, and please continue to keep us updated.
Hey Greg, how did you apply the beeswax- by hand or did you dip the stummel?
I feel like I've shown my meer a lot lately. But I hold mine by the bowl(like my other pipes) and it is coloring nicely.
Ghost, I applied by hand, twice:
First I plugged the shank and bowl and applied melted wax with a q-tip which I then melted off with a blow dryer over waxed paper, and polished it with a cotton rag. I figured this was the best way to get the bulldog lines and the small florets covered well but not leave a lot of residue.
The second coat was after it cooled completely and by hand, rubbing on beeswax as I smoked it. There were a few spots that absorbed more wax so I am glad I took the time to do this second coat/step. Again, when I was done I polished it with a cotton rag, a piece of old bath towel.
I considered doing the "dunk" but I didn't want to melt that much wax and deal with that big of a clean up. The way I went with wasn't a big mess, with the extra wax dripping onto the wax paper, all I had to do was wax it up and toss it out. The next time it's due I'll most likely do the same thing as I'm happy with the results and the effort it took for clean up, set up etc. By the way, I melted a small amount of wax at a time, in a cleaned out, empty tea candle metal dish-thing they come in, using a small butane torch on low, about 6-8 above the wax. No burning of smoking either: my wife smelled the melted wax and thought I was baking! LOL
Bothers, is that an African meer? If I understand correctly, they color differently than Turkish meers and handling them isn't as big a deal. I have an old African that is very similar to yours and I hold it by the bowl, too, but not the Turkish. Now that I think of it, that one needs waxed, too. May have to do some before and after shots on it when I get to it.
Thanks Greg! I've held off doing the dunking method on mine for the exact same reasons. Too much mess for 1-2 pipes.
Voorhees- that is some neat colour!
Bothers, is that an African meer?I hate spell check sometimes: I meant Voorhees.
No problem, Ghost. You might want to try the daub-method; as I said it wasn't bad at all.
Greg, nope its actually a Storient LVC. I did a dunk waxing(plugging the openings), I then let it sit for a while then removed the excess with a hair dryer and cotton rag.
Wow, Voorhees! What a difference a "dunk" made! That deep color fooled me totally. She's a beaut; I really wanted a LVC but …
I hear ya Greg....
Your meerschaum is turning the color of a c1960 white BMW motorcycle. Rare & beautiful. Love the white stem.
That is some nice coloring. My Storient has startd to color up some, mostly in the shank. I have been rubbing it with beeswax when it is hot while I have been smoking it. Sorry, I cant get the pictures to show it.

Sorry, I cant get the pictures to show it.Those things can be tough to capture. I expected mine to not color so well on the shank because of the Delrin mortise and tenon, and it isn't in "that" spot. But it seems that everyone else's is doing fine there, just my block I guess? Or maybe my thoughts have subliminally effected the meerschaum!
Greg, this is a great time-lapse capture of the transition process. And it's a lovely pipe design. Thanks for sharing these!

Nice meer Greg. It's coloring well. I've been getting my Storient out here lately trying to get it coloring. I'll have to post up some pics.

It seemed like at first most folks were sharing their progress pics but I guess the novelty wore off. But not for a simple feller like me!
