Maybe the Dr. Graybow historians can give me some information on the little cutie. The shank is metal ang goes through the bowl, there's a cutout in the tubing to allow smoke to travel up the shank, the fishtail stem is removable and the bowl is large enough to take one flake of PS Luxury Twist Flake which is what I'm smoking in it now. Although it is probably classified a Bulldog I'd be inclined to call it a Pug, I think the flake of tobacco weighs about the same as the pipe!

CDL--cooler,drier,lighter. They were not heavily marketed, mostly in the southeast if I remember correctly, from about 1975 until 1983. They were available with several styles of bowls and will take a filter if wanted.

I have a couple NOS pipes. I like em and wish they were still in production. Great low cost pipe.

Cool. Ed do you have any connection with Grabow other than collecting them?
Well, I do smoke a lot of them ! But otherwise no,although I do know a former president of the company and have visited at his home a few times. Nice to know someone with a little pull! He got me that box full of CDL pipes from the factory at a very good price ( all I have left are on that card) as well as a few other favors and good deals.

On my last trip to the antique store I stumbled on two of those pipes in a basket alongside a variety of others. All the pipes belonged to the same man and nearly all of them were smoked to death. Most had chunks taken out of them, were covered inside and out with tar, and had modifications of one kind or another (even the cobs! he scotch taped his cobs together to keep using them). I figured the two CDL pipes were Frankenpipes as well.

That's a great pipe collection. Very cool.
Thanks ! That big display is now filled. There's 124 pipes hanging on that wall, about half of my DG collection.
