My wife came from yet again from the antique store with this pipe a few days ago. I have been busy building and finishing my pipe rack and finally got around to cleaning it up. I don't know much about the Silver Duke line except that it was discontinued in 1967.

I have only hand polished one coat with wax but I am going to buff a few more on to make it shine.

Actually the Silver Duke was made from 1964 to 1992. They are one of my favorite Dr. G. lines.

That is a very good site for Grabow info. The guy who owns it is one of the more knowledgeable Grabow collectors. Some of the info had been updated since he posted the info there and he hasn't updated the site in quite a while.
Another great site for Grabow info -- http://drgrabows.myfreeforum.org/index.php?sid=c13a84f8440dc5de0af48b4afec89e6c

I have a real soft spot for Grabows. My first briar pipe was a Dr. Grabow Omega. I've picked up a Viscount pot that smokes great and a Starfire Dublin that smokes VaPers very well. I just wish the pot was a little bigger. I think I've got a lovat sitting around somewhere too. I hid it after my great "lakeland" experiment.
For a few bucks and a little elbow grease you can get a lot of return in my opinion.

That's a smooth, handsome design. Sometimes we forget that factory pipes are pieces of industrial design too, and this is, to my mind, a very good one. Is that screw-in stem arrangement original, or has the stinger been sawed off a Drinkless? In any case, your wife is a sharp pipe buyer. To have another agent in the field doubles your chances of find good pipe! Brava to her.

The Silver Duke,Golden Duke and Berwyck all had a screw in Ajustomatic stem designed to take a 6MM paper filter.
