This is apparently a derivative of C&D Pirate Kake in ribbon cut. It’s a comfortable smoke. Rather simple. I can’t decide whether it’s pleasant or a bit boring. I’ve got some Pirate Kake and have liked that before but I’m not opening that new tin yet. I’m still sampling the new unexperienced blends I purchased for first impressions. So far I like the Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture the best. The last of the new is C&D Super Balkan, which I’ll try tomorrow.

99 sounds promising to me. You can always jazz it up with some Five Brothers or condimental cigar leaf or oriental to use up the rest, if you decide not to re-order.

I’ve never had Pirate Cake (too much Lat for me) but I do rather enjoy Engine 99. While it is a stout blend I’d be really surprised if it had 75% Latakia. Give it some time to grow on you, I find that it’s peak performance is in the dead of winter. It’s one of my favorite C&D English blends.
