I would like to try a meer, but would prefer to try a cheaper one before shelling out $300 for a quality meer.

Can anybody recommend a specific brand or seller for small and cheap meers?

Certainly can! Won't find better quality, for the price. Plus they add new ones on Mondays and Thursdays at 3:30 EST.
