It's called a pre-carb. Most pipes have them. But it really wouldn't absorb the bad oils and tastes. It'd help build your cake faster though!

You could, but cake starts to build after just a few pipe fulls, depending on your baccy, so is it really worth the trouble? Considering you can just coat your bowl anyway with honey if you are looking for a faster build up

I guess I don't understand why you would NEED or WANT to. All you need for a perfect cake is some tobacco and a light.

Just asking as cake is sometimes a pain to build on some pipes. Especially if you rotate the pipes regularly. It could take months or even years depending on the amount of pipes in your rotation. I have one Petersen that I have smoked religiously for a little over a year, but has very little cake.
