Out of curiosity does anyone collect or smoke briar figurals? Have one in your rotation. What is your favorite or most unusual? How do they smoke?(They don't seem popular on ebay)

For whatever reason, these never sell for what they should be worth. How do they smoke ? Like any pipe it depends on how well its made. I've sold several of them over the last few years, a few were very well made and carved in great detail. A few were sloppy work at best.

If you find one you like, I say grab it if it suits your style.

bought a nifty pirate smokin a pipe figural...... shank cracked at 1st bowl. Nice carved pipe, but I have a suspicion that the briar used in figurals is somehow fragile. Never again for a figural. Its now only an adornment . Dang nab it, it was such a cool pipe.

Got a bulldog, mean looking cuss, eyes sunk in, I told my wife to find me some red stones while she"s on her forever shopping sprees and I will super glue them in his sunken eyes and he will look meaner. The bulldog looks like the one on the Clark pipe advertisement, oh by the way smokes good Tbradsim the old cajun

@hobie: Briar figurals are the Bigfoot of pipes...stories and rumors, but rarely photographed. The occasional photo that turns up is usually out of focus, and can never be fully authenticated. Some believe they are really meers, photoshopped to look like briars. No one knows for sure. All inquiries seem to either be ignored or responded to in vague terms. Some have gone mad seeking the truth. I advise to drop it and be content with your traditional briars...or convert to meerism, where you can safely explore and admire figurals.

I didn't even know what a "briar figural" was until I did a google image search.
I barely ever have seen any, and I've combed over many, many pipe auctions.
There must be a reason why we see so many more artistically carved Meerschaums than the so named briar figurals.

Lighten up Dude, I though they were funny, Dave didn"t mean anything by his comments, and hobie dog is like a little chicawaw, always nipping at your heels, I kind of like that, again they didn "t mean anything, but thanks for thinking they were putting me down, they weren't". Tbradsim the old cajun

I have several old figurals and a couple newly made ones. Have to get the camera ready to post some photos of them.

BAC Art Pipes sells some of the finest figural briar pipes I've ever seen. It takes hours and hours to carve the intricate detail on these pipes.

Here are a couple links to a site ( UPCA) from the Chicago Pipe show exhibits with some fine figurals
