I personally like one with a medium sized bowl that is not too deep. I have a Peterson 999 that is great with flakes.

I like meers or MM cob bowls for my flake. IMO I also find a 3/4" chamber/stack works best as I use the fold/stuff method on all my flake

This is a loaded question for sure, and several threads have addressed it. I like a tall narrow chamber for flakes, and I have a Dr. Grabow Starfire pickaxe that smokes flakes wonderfully. G.L. Pease enjoys his flake tobaccos in a wide and shallow chamber, such as a pot. Good luck!

I like to smoke flakes generally in a smaller dublin style bowl, straighter billiard style. I find the smaller bowl keeps the flake nicely packed and I tend to also smoke flakes that are stronger so I don't want a huge bowl.

IMHO, there's no best shape for flakes.

There are only methods to make each flake fit with a fixed pipe.

Because flakes are different from each other.

And a good pipe gives a good smoke with most tobaccos.

I agree with heraclitian. I've got a Peterson 80s bulldog that does well when I've cube cut Gawith Rum Flake into it.

I've got a second hand GBD Pot that does great with McClelland Blackwoods Flake and all I did was a gravity fill.

The only problem I have is when I don't take the time to smoke a flake gently to get the best out of it. I think patience is the best course with any flake.

I have a Wiley freehand Dublin that works real well for me. Conical 7/8 bowl and about 1 1/2 deep. I smoke a lot of silver flake and escudo in it.

I agree on method for prep of flake-to-pipe...IMHO what works best

for me is a good dry time on the flake, using peterson's UF for example

I will fold in three parts length wise, then rip in three equal parts,

stack up and fit it into a 3/4" bowl this will fit snug to fill the bowl

but not tight....this method keeps that flake burn'in nice and even

and delivers max flavor...give it a try and let me know what you think
It all comes down to preference at the end of the day...do what

works best for you and above all else enjoy the smoke
