To get your avatar to show up in the forums, do the following:

Go into a thread where you posted and under your name, click the word/link that says 'Member'. (It might say New Member, Senior Member, or something else. But it is right under your user name.)

Scroll to the right and you will see 4 boxes. They say: Profile, Favorites, Edit, Avatar.

Click on Avatar and upload your photo of choice.

My I.Q. must have dropped. I've tried every trick I know to load an avatar. I've even optomized the file size. I even tried to load one that was only 10x10 still no go. It always wants me to crop, so I do and save, but still no avatar. What's the secret guys?

There are two avatars on the site. Your main one for the main site and a secondary one for the forums. You have to follow the instructions that I posted in the first post of this thread and it will upload your forum avatar.

I can't do it either! Once you have the picture you want (in my case it's in My Pictures) what do you do with the photo first before you click on the change avitar on the PM site?

    Tatanka,

You may have to re-size the photo so that it fits within the allowable size. Then you should be able to upload it as your avatar on the main site and on the forums.

    Salewis,

Sorry, but I don't know what to tell you. If you follow the directions that I posted, it should work. It works for every one else.

It doesn't work for me either, I click on the "new member" and scroll right and there are NO four boxes, much less anything saying "avatar".

Never mind, I found it. After step one you have to go to step one and a half and click on "edit this information" THEN you can scroll right and click on avatar (step two). Gotta give us old guys ALL of the button pushes or we just don't get it.

OK, I know what is going on.

I just went and looked at it again and the tabs that I listed are actually covered up by the top navigation bar. This happened after the site redesign. Some things in the back end are still kind of broken. The profile page is one of them.

With this in mind, do like Bubble head said and scroll down to the bottom of the profile page and you will see your profile. Click on the 'edit this information' link and you can upload your avatar that way as well.
Once the profile page is fixed, the tabs will be visible again and my original instructions will work.

    Sorry about the confusion.

Aha ... this could do with some clarification in an announcement somewhere when you create your account.

Help! I uploaded my avatar OK, but can't crop it so that it fits in the thumbnail sketch. How do I reduce the thing to get it to fit thumbnails?

When I try to upload an avatar, it appears with a "crop avatar" requirement and a crop box centered in the picture. When I click on the picture anywhere, including into the crop box, the box moves immediately to the lower right of the picture and cannot be moved or resized. Any help?
