I've had an iPad tablet for some time now and, while I really like it I have often found it limiting in some ways. I decided to give an Android tablet a try so yesterday I picked up an Asus TF101 Transformer tablet.
First off, it's quite a bit less expensive than the iPad. $399 for a 32GB tablet. It is currently running Honeycomb (3.2.1) but the Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) upgrade should be any time now.
It's a little bigger than the iPad, and slightly heavier. I really like the textured back which makes for a much more secure grip on the thing.
It has front and rear cameras, quality about what you expect from a tablet camera.
I didn't buy the keyboard dock due to cash restraints but plan to do so in the near future as it bumps the battery life up to around 15 hours and adds usb ports as well.
I've been putting it through it's paces since I bought it yesterday and it hasn't disappointed me at all. Great screen, video playback, runs fast as hell, and even the sound is better than the iPad given it has stereo speaker ports. Ok, the ports aren't far enough apart to give real stereo sound, but it is louder than the iPad's built in speaker.
I really like the fact that it comes with an app that allows me to connect to and use my laptop (or desktop) from the tablet. I don't know how much I'll actually use that, but I did play around with it and it's pretty cool that it comes pre-installed.
I've transferred all of my ebooks, music, and videos over to the Asus and think I'll likely be using it a lot more than the iPad now.
Anyone interested in buying a well used iPad 1?
I can't wait until a full blown Linux tablet hits the market.

Oh wow. I want one! I've been waiting for a decent Android replacement for the iPad but I've never found one I liked much. I have two Asus computers and they're great.
I'll have to visit the electronics store to see if I can hold one.

The usability of the iPad out of the box is really good and the ease of use is what sold me. I sort of like Android too but isn't it a little bit like the wild west with them (lots of different versions)?

That's what makes Android nice. It isn't a proprietary OS. So, all electronics manufacturers can come up with their own version of a Android powered device. If there wasn't that freedom, you would have only company competing with Apple. I like to be able to choose who I give my money to for a given product.
I have been a big fan of Android since I bought my Incredible the day it hit the shelves. Still use it daily. Wife has a Samsung Fascinate and there is also a Samsung Galaxy Tablet in my possession. Bought the tablet almost a year ago and love it. Great for reading books, browsing forums or watching Netflix while sitting in a waiting room if you have wi-fi. All but the Fascinate are rooted. Tablet was rooted within a week, Incredible took a couple months because I wanted to research and see if it was something I could accomplish with minimal errors.

@cyndi, shop around, there are some great prices out there since I bought mine, and upgrades. Acer also makes a really nice tab.

PIPETRUCKER - Nice review. I haven't bought a tablet yet and I've been doing quite a bit of research to find the one for me. I'll check this one out.

Thanks, folks I'm typing this on it now and am really liking it.
There are a lot of different brands and models of Andriod devices on the market. That's a good thing as the competition helps keep prices down and quality up. With iOS you are locked in to a single supplier who can charge whateve they like, and Apple products have never been known to be inexpensive. Of course now Apple is sueing Google in an attempt to keep Android 4.0 off the market. This has convinced me to not buy any more Apple products.
