Sometime, you just get lucky and this is one of those times for me. This elegant estate Meerschaum is likely a pre-embargo Pipe that has an amber bit and it has been taken care of, which is one of the more unlikely events to happen in the Meerschaum estate market. http://pipesmagazine.com/members/fred/album/picture/816 I got lucky, as the Pipe didn't attract a lot of attention, as it did not come up on a general Meerschaum Pipe search on e-bay, so I wound up getting it at a very reasonable price, which is a rarity these days with bidding typically going on at vastly overinflated estimates of value. It has a great patina and the Seller was very open to my pre-bid inquiry, which is really the deal make or break for me. I will know more when I get the Pipe in my hands, but from what I already know, it should only need a good cleaning. This Pipe has years of service left in it and will continue to color as it is smoked.

This Bauer smokes well for me. The previous owner was a Virginia

smoker and the cleanup was light. Likely a pre-Koncak Meerschaum,

it was created outside of Turkey. It works well as a Flake Pipe,

as the bowl is small by comparison to many of the current Andreas Bauer

Meerschaums made in the last 35 years, but it is big enough to hold a

single Flake. It has taken a lot of Beeswax and the coloration has

migrated to a more even distribution. This is one of those rare cases

of getting lucky in the estate Meerschaum market.

Your luck is phenomenal. Have you ever considered a career change.... e.g. Poker?

Fred, I love that shape and the color/patina looks very nice.

Congratulations.

A beautiful piece, Fred. With proper care your grandchildren will love it as much as we do today.

Thanks again guys! This Pipe has become an excellent Flake Pipe.

It has taken a lot of Beeswax and the color has migrated to a more

even distribution.
