The Coast Guard started making rescues before Hurricane Harvey made first landfall and they are continuing search and rescue efforts now.

Yup, the Coast Guard has been working nonstop. Saw some moving footage of helicopter rescues from just inside the chopper door. One basket was hoisted in with an older guy in the basket with his little dog in his lap. I'm sure everyone was on a safety harness in no time, incl dog. I think they must be running the equipment close to tolerance. I don't think they stop.

I saw that footage too mso, have not been able to find it again though. I wonder if they are risking hot-refueling those choppers.

Pappy, one can tell you're proud of your chosen branch of service, as well you should be. These young men and women are out there every day doing what they do and touching lives to great effect. I have a nephew who just received a Coast Guard commission so he's off and running and very proud! I sometimes wish I would have chosen Coast Guard over the "Chair Force" and almost went CG reserve after my separation from active duty, but didn't. It's just water under the bridge now. Thanks, Pappy, for your Coast Guard service and all others out there who served in the CG (and DoD types, too).

God bless the Coast Guard. They are working tirelessly to save lives, at risk of their own in wretched conditions. It breaks my heart when I see folk being evacuated with their little pets. My critters have always been like family & I understand why folk won't abandon their pets.
These crews & pilots are professionals through and through--and will hundreds of people's angels.
