Yes, A&F used to be a premier sporting goods store, and Ernest Hemingway would go there
to buy prime quality rifles for hunting big game in Africa, and other serious safari equipment.
They did not have beefcake posters on the walls in those days. Speaking of this A&F pipe,
I had for many years a L.L. Bean pipe, likely made for them by Dr. Grabow. It was a sturdy
thick-walled pot, and its only short-coming was a stinger. I finally consolidated it and several
other pipes into a pipe I liked better, but it was a good item of Americana, I thought.
