I don't mean to dampen sales of pipes. What would we do without a new or fresh estate

pipe when the muses call us? But sometimes, the best pipe shopping is at home, right

off our racks or out of the baskets, pipe pouches, or drawers where they have found their

way. I'm always pleased at what I discover.

I don't really have enough pipes to do that an I pretty much know how all my pipes smoke, but often a pipe gets left on the rack for several weeks and it is very enjoyable when I get back to it.

At this point I can say that all of my three dozen, plus or minus, are getting smoked, but some more often

than others. I have three or four that are new enough to still be in the breaking-in process. But pipes in

a basket, or pipes that rotated around back on a round pipe rack, can disappear for a while. I'd say they

are mostly getting smoked every month or two, mostly more. Sometimes "shopping at home" is more

like finding the neglected ones. I have to get back to that Joh's diplomat, and that Mountain Laurel bent

ball definitely needs a smoking.
