When my pipe collection started growing and I got back into piping (recently), I really felt the need for this. However, a stand I wanted was the price of a good pipe, or almost two.

Years ago, I bought a keychain that could hold things on it. And one morning it caught my eye. I thought, 'This could work!'

And then, here I went, and what you see in the pictures came out. Later, I added a 'pipe seat' to it, and I guess I'll continue to make things like this :D

Very cool. I looked at pipe stands before and there was nothing I liked and always thought they were over-priced for what you're getting. For less than half the cost of many stands out there, I got far superior and more expensive woods and am currently making one for myself (using mahogany, hard maple and leather).

Granted, I am putting a ridiculous amount of work into it and it's going to be way fancier than necessary, but I enjoy woodworking.

I'm glad you were able to make something you like. I know some people might poo poo pipe stands with some "I just toss mine in a drawer, it's tool, not art, something something grumpy old man complaint", but I like a nice stand.
