    Perique

In my (albeit limited) experience, the only tobaccos I worry about ghosting pipes are aromatics and latakia blends. I don't smoke aro's, so no problems there for me. As for latakia, I have two pipes that are strictly off-limits--VA and VA/Per only in those. But I haven't noticed any of the...

    Pipe Possibilities for 2014

rmbittner, your #4 is some fine advice. I think a journal is one of the best ways to maximize enjoyment from one's tobacco. It encourages you to take in the full experience, and it documents your relationship to the hobby. To expand on the journal idea: it might be fun to "contextualize" your...

    TAD and Stuff...and also Things

Yeah, everyone's tastes are so different. I did a similar thing a while ago. My first bowl of Plum Pudding was an epiphany; but when I got to Froggy's Cellar I was pretty underwhelmed. It just goes to show that in the world of pipe tobacco, there is no such things as "this blend's better than...

    G.L. Pease: Gaslight

Two tins showed up in my mailbox today. Cracked one open, and here's my review: :puffy: then 8O then

    Favorite Billiard For English Blends?

Not exactly a billiard, but this one's my favorite for latakia mixtures: Ashton Pebble Grain XXX.

    Mark Tinsky or Radice

Ha! Not to worry...It's just a matter of time before something else comes along to sweep me off my feet :-) Enjoy your lovely new Tinsky!

    Mark Tinsky or Radice

instymp, so you're the lucky fella who bought that Tinsky. I had been eyeing it after it had been posted on SP; I was thiiiiiiiis close to buying it, then *bam* it was gone. Tell me, how does it smoke?

    Pipe Getting Unusually Hot

Very interesting articles sable; definitely food for thought. I'll try experimenting with blends first. If that doesn't help, maybe I'll consider some DIY modification such as you suggest, tbrad. Thanks.

    Pipe Getting Unusually Hot

I'm sure this has been covered numerous times on this forum, from numerous angles. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to get some fresh insight. I recently bought an estate Dunhill--it's a Group 4 Dublin from '74. My concern is that it gets hotter in the hand than any of my other pipes...

    Heading to Seattle--B&M Recommendations Sought!

Good to know wyfbane. I'm still very new to the whole pipe smoking world, so I'm not knowledgeable about taxes and legislation, etc. I'll still drop into Tinderbox, however, seeing as how its on the way. Fingers crossed they have some Mississippi River. And yes, the Mary Jane/tobacco...

    Heading to Seattle--B&M Recommendations Sought!

Sadly, I have to be back in Portland for work on Weds., otherwise I'd love to join you folks. One of these days, though, I'll be sure to drop in to one of your meetings; sounds like fun. I'll definitely make a point of stopping into Tinder Box, however. Thanks for the suggestion.

Found a Pet in My New Basement

That thing is cool. I wonder if it will make a big webby nest in your terrarium. My girlfriend would have probably insisted we move if she found one of those anywhere in our house! She is deathly afraid of spiders. Me? I love spiders--think they're fascinating. Snakes the same. Bees and...

    Heading to Seattle--B&M Recommendations Sought!

Good evening my friends. I'm heading to Seattle for a couple of days next week and was hoping to visit a B&M or two. I'm particularly keen to find a place that stocks Seattle Pipe Club tobaccos, as these are hard to procure online at the moment. Any recommendations?

    Breaking in a New Pipe.

I'm trying to do something similar. The route I'm opting for is to break it in with a few bowls of Early Morning Pipe. From what I understand it's Va forward, with some Orientals and latakia--so its in the genre, but mild flavored and should effect minimal ghosting.

    New Pipe: The Whistler?

Just an update. I got my pipe back from smokingpipes.com today. They found a small piece of vulcanite in the stem that was lodged in the stem. They were able to remove it, and I can now say that this pipe is whistle-free! I'm a happy piper :puffy: Thanks all for the advice.

    House of Calabash

So I'm assuming you guys are familiar with Rich's Cigar as well. Have any of you tried Rich's blends since Steve moved on? I know they carry a lot of the blends Steve designed, but just wondering whether the quality is still there. Would love to visit House of Calabash some time . . . but...

    What's the Difference?

I'm in a similar position: new smoker, wanting to graduate from my cheap-o pipe. I bought a Peterson thinking that it would surely be an improvement over what I was smoking. Sadly no...my Pete's on its way back to the vendor because of a manufacturing flaw. It's likely that I just got a dud...

    New Pipe: The Whistler?

Well the pipe is on its journey back to smokingpipes. They're going to look at it and get back to me with my options. Hopefully I don't have to send cigrmaster after them! lol!

    New Pipe: The Whistler?

Thanks again to everyone for their input. I'm too nervous to attempt any repair on my own. But the good folks at SP have agreed to take the pipe back and look it over to see if they can fix it. Fingers crossed...
