    Flowers from Pipestud!

Well, ok, not really. But I did just receive this fantastic Eric Andersen "tulip" from one of his auctions  I'm currently enjoying some 2013 Old Dark Fired in it. I can't believe how smoothly it smokes! I think I have a new favorite pipe :puffy:

I Love the Shape of This Pipe, But......

How the **** would you light it without scorching the rim?

    New Moretti

It's been a long, long time since I've posted, although I've been a loyal lurker for the last couple of years. But I scored a new Moretti morta on the Bay last week and it arrived today. I was so exited that I had to share!

    The Blowfish Arrived, But....

My new blowfish was delivered today. I was so excited, and then I took it out of the package. The birdseye is great looking. The finish is nice. It's surprisingly light. But this thing is seriously lopsided. One side of the bowl is higher than the other. The shank isn't straight and the...

    Blowfish!

Josh Bafford Blowfish I've been looking at this pipe for days. I love the shape and the birdseye on it. But its always a bit scary buying something on the Bay and more so when the carver is so unknown. I finally decided to take the plunge today. Its a bit of a gamble but here's hoping :-)

    Josh Bafford Pipes?

Does anyone have one? How do they smoke? If you can't tell I'm pipe shopping today :D

    An Off-center Draught Hole?

I'm looking at a pipe where the draught hole has drilled a few degrees off center. At first I thought this was simply poor workmanship, but the more I look at it, the hole placement appears to be the inevitable result of how the pipe is shaped. And I love the shape of the pipe. Will the off...

Does Anyone Own a J. Parker Pipe?

I'm looking at a couple of his pipes and was just wondering how they smoked. I tried the old Google search for forum threads but there's just not much out there. Does anyone have any experience with his work?

    Ribbon Cut VA's?

As my pipe smoking career has progressed, I've found myself leaning heavily towards VA based blends - straight, VaPer,VaBur, what have you. Most of my favorites are flakes or broken flakes but.... I have a long boring 40 minute drive into town for work every day. To add insult to injury, I'm...

It's Here! My New Nording Highgrade!

This is the pipe I promised myself as motivation to get through several long sleepless nights of web design work. It's even more beautiful than expected, although it's just a bit more red than I thought it would be. I'm very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. The stem fits perfectly...

    Hard Work's Reward

In addition to working a full time job I also do some web design work on the side with the hope that I can someday leverage the work into a full time job. Recently I've been working on the second stage of a multi-part e-commerce project for a local small business owner who tends to be very...

Haddo's Delight - One Big Tin or Four Little Ones?

Well, it's been a couple of months and it's finally time for my TAD order #2. Yeah, I know, I'm just such a heavy smoker, I am  My last order leaned heavily towards the "try new things" line of thinking. This order is going to be more dedicated to stocking up on some favorites - some to...

GL Pease Meridian and Haddo's Delight - A Newbie's Perspective

As I mentioned in an earlier post I placed a smallish order with Pipes and Cigars, which arrived this afternoon. Of the seven tobaccos I ordered, five are completely new to me - choices made at the recommendations of all the good people here :-) I tried the two GL Pease varieties today -...

    TAD - The Dilemma

Ah, the joys of TAD - Waiting with eager anticipation for your package to arrive. The joy of opening it up and sorting through the content. Popping open the new tins and lovingly transferring their contents to jars. The sights and smells - some fruity, some smokey, some dark and deep. But...

Upcoming TAD - What Else Should I Try?

Tomorrow is payday and I found out this week I'm getting a small bonus. So, like any good pipe smoker I'm spending the bonus on tobacco :D I'm putting together my shopping list made up of mostly new-to-me tobaccos, along with a couple of repeat favorites. I'd like to add one or two more tins...

Can a Cracked Shank Be Fixed?

I've been thinking about getting into pipe restoration lately. Seeing all the amazing work from other restorers has been really fascinating and inspiring and it seems like it would be an enjoyable side hobby that complements my pipe smoking addiction hobby. To that end, I've bought a couple of...

The Unexpected Health Benefits of Pipe Smoking - For a Dog

Like some others of us on the forums, I'm a bit of a dog lover. My current beast four-legged companion is a miniature pinscher named Connor, who will be turning 10 this fall. I've had him since he was eight weeks old, and I've enjoyed every minute of my time with him. Needless to say, watching...

    Keeping Frog Morton Lit?

How do you do it? FM seems to require three or four times as many relights as any other tobacco I've tried so far. I've tried drying it out until it's just short of crispy. I've packed it tight. I've packed it loose. I've gravity filled, three-stepped it, and rolled the pipe around in my...

The First Smoke Is Great, But the Second Sucks

Out of my not exactly extensive collection of pipes, I've got one that's giving me fits - my little Boswell freehand. It's the same story every time. The first smoke of the day is great. It lights easily, and smokes to the bottom with just a few relights. The second smoke of the day, no...

Mac Baren's Plumcake - Why Do I Like It?

This isn't a post about singing the praises of Mac Baren's Plumcake - there are already a couple of other threads for that. Rather, I'm posting to try to learn a little more about my hobby and to understand what types of tobaccos are in a particular blend and why I may or may not like them...
