    Brebbia Latakia # 9

Just a quick review: This is very well packaged, and the perfect humidity right out of the tin. I didn't really detect much of a tin aroma, but the Virginia's came through a bit. Upon lighting, I first thought: This is missing something...but I think more now: It doesn't have anything...

Brigham Aurora Borealis No Vacuum Seal...

I just cracked a new tin of Brigham Aurora Borealis, and it was not vacuum sealed. Tobacco is bone dry. I emptied the tin in a bowl and sprayed it with distilled water, let it soak in a bit, and jarred it. Hopefully it comes back. FYI.

    Mastro de Paja Venezia Review

This blend is billed as a natural classic mixture of Latakia, Turkish and Virginia tobaccos. Rich tasting, cool and slow burning, Full strength. The tin aroma is unobtrusive and the presentation appears equal in all respects. The leaf was just right in terms of moisture right out of the tin, and...

    Chonowitsch T-16 Review

Wow. This blend is a floral cornucopia as soon as the vacuum breaks on the tin. I dare say I have never detected a tin aroma this bold, period. Branded as a traditional English mixture with Syrian Latakia, Smyrna, and Virginia varieties; I believe every word of it. It is certainly all there with...

    A Toast to The Flag

The well known toast to the flag: Here's to the red of it-- There's not a thread of it, No, nor a shred of it In all the spread of it From foot to head. But heroes bled for it, Faced steel and lead for it, Precious blood shed for it, Bathing it Red! Here's to the white of it-- Thrilled...

    Davidoff English Mixture

I've read a plethora of reviews on this blend, and can't say I really agree with any of them. The tin description is of a medium aromatic blend, with Latakia; almost indicating a crossover. I found it to be nothing of the sort, and nothing like Royal Yacht as some suggest. The Virginia's...

    Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls

Upon opening this tin I thought perhaps I had been short changed on volume, as it seemed a bit light. However, these rolls rubbed out quite easily and nicely filling the tin to capacity, and breaking down into a fine ribbon reminiscent of a cigarette tobacco cut. The tin aroma was distinctively...

    2 Types of Presbyterian Mixtures?

Interesting article about two types of Presbyterian Mixtures. I have one older tin that says: Made in W. Germany and some new tins with the updated art that say: Made in the EU. Do I have both mixtures? http://dutchpipesmoker.wordpress.com/tag/presbyterian-mixture/

    Former's Pipe Tobacco

Does anyone have experience with Former's flake tobaccos? It seems somewhat difficult to come by, and I just wondered if it was worth a try as a VaPer or not. Is it out of production?

Select Leaf Tobacco Co. (Stafford, VA)

I had a chance to swing into Select Leaf Tobacco Co. in Stafford, VA today and found a surprising variety of pipes and tobaccos. They had about 20-25 commonly available tins at B&M prices such as Peterson, Savinelli, Dunhill etc...they also had a fair selection of Italian machine-mades and a few...

Saylor's Cigars and Gifts Manassas, VA (Not Recommended)

So today, on my way to work, I needed to stop by the cleaners and noticed across the street a place named "Saylor's Cigars and Gifts" in Manassas, VA. I decided to stop in and was surprised to find what might be the worst smoking establishment I've ever seen. The first words out of the counter...

    Empty Hot or Cold?

As I was just emptying my pipe I began to wonder...Do you empty whilst the pipe is still warm, or do you let it cool off, or does it not matter? I have found that I empty warm and run a few pipe cleaners in while it's hot, which seems to get more of the gunk out. Forgive me if there is already a...

    Reiner Light English Blend

I just cracked a tin of Reiner Light English Blend "Mild Latakia Mixture" Wild Cut. The first thing I noticed is the tin aroma is certainly not your typical English...smells very sweet, maybe a maple casing. I see some rubbed Virginia's, what I think is rough cut Kentucky, and a splash a...

    What Happend to Knox Cigar?

Does anyone remember the Knoxville Cigar Co., I think it was pipeforless.com? I noticed a few years back they suddenly disappeared. Just wondered if anyone here knew what went down.

    B&M Peterson Find!

So I had a few minutes to stop into a local B&M on my way to work today. I had wanted to swing by for some time, but its kind of out of the way, and look what little gem I find sitting in the almost empty pipe cabinet. Its a Peterson Great Explorer Series "Shackleton", a nice size volcano. The...

Let That Charring Light Sit Overnight

I thought I would share something that I have recently become a huge fan of, which is packing and charring the morning's smoke the night before. It truly is the best smoke of the day, almost as if it marinades all night. Give it a shot, if you haven't already.
