    Old Gowrie composition dilemma

Thanks for the .pfd It is a great sourch, which confirms my foggy memories. Old Gowrie was clearly presented as pure virginia and so it tasted. While changed, I continue to not discern any kentucky or perique in it and while it is well known that tobacco quality changed in time, adding both...

    Old Gowrie composition dilemma

Yes, I know and smoked HALO as well. And HALO is, definitely, what it states it is. I cannot detect any perique or kentucky in Old Gowrie (somebody does?). My big question mark is: nobody has ever thought to Old Gowrie as "halo light" before K&K would start to describe it with the same...

    Old Gowrie composition dilemma

Hello everybody. Many years ago, before Rattray's production would pass to K&K in germany I used to smoke a lot of Old Gowrie and also happened to discuss of it on forums like a.s.p. At those times Old Gowrie was known as a straight virginia, a quite mild one, and still seems it to me. The K&K...

Time To Switch A Pipe Over

-========= Personally, I wouldn't even bother with a salt treatment. I've converted pipes from lat to non-lat without bothering. Just load it up and go. You'll get there. Maybe use some OTC burley for a few bowls, if you have one on hand. ====== Same for me. Reserve salt alcohol for extreme...

What You Want to Know About Corn Cob Pipes

I like them and enjoy them to smoke soapy virginias in summer. Just like meerschaum, I don't find them very suited for latakia mixtures. And I strongly disagree about the idea they don't need break-in. I share much more the opinion of Mark Twain about how hard they can be at the beginning (I...

    Nine Dunhill Four Square Panels

I share square panel addiction. And especially addiction for Dunhill square panels. Perhaps, my most beloved shape (and a very difficult one to make well) Your one is a great team. One of these days I'll share some of my panels as well.

    Stanwell vs. Savinelli

I don't know very well the newer Stanwell production. Speaking for the old one, they are pipes I'd suggest over every other at the medium level. I own more savinelli, part because I like (or liked) the disegn part because I live quite close their firtst, central, home shop in Milan and this...

    Claudio Cavicchi

Hi Rob, it is impossible to say because I think Cavicchi makes just one Diamante each year so there is no availability at all. Also, I don't think they still have the twin bit, amber and lucite. My educated guess is it could cost something like Euro 1000-1200, if found. But it is just a guess...

Pipe Smoking in China - Circa 1960

Good for everybody who has problems in keeping the pipe lit! :-)

    Thinking of A Zippo. . .

IMHO the zippo flame is less dangerous on rims than the butane flame. The fluid smell isn't a factor, as long you use the lighter properly (letting him go a couple of seconds before to light the pipe). To me, the real problem is that I have great difficulties in reaching the tobacco and light...

Capstan and Three Nuns Now in Stock ONLY AT SMOKINGPIPES.COM

What I knew (but maybe I am completely mistaken) was that mac baren did them before. And now they sold the license to Orlik and will continue to produce their blue and yeloow flake under mac baren name. Is this wrong?

    Claudio Cavicchi

Hi Rob! That seller was me :-) (Yet I don't sell pipes anymore, just buy and enjoy them)

So Has Capstan Come in Stock Yet?

Are there any news of the "new" Mac Baren blue and yellow (the former Capstans?)

    Claudio Cavicchi

Two rather big Cavicchi are in my regular rotation. A bit on the large size for me, in this moment, as I became mostly a pressed virginia smoker. But great, great pipes. I had the pleasure to know and meet Claudio personally and he didn't seemed to me "a pain in the ass", either :-) As many...
