    Not a bad idea with the drought problems they've been having. I happen to like the way the ozark Mountain hardwoods smoke, so I might give the new hardwoods a try too.

    Once you have bought and paid for tobacco, nothing you do is taboo, as long as you don't try to resell the Mix as your own New Blend. I'm a fsn of Mac Baren blends, and have come up with several home blends combining different favorites.

    My favorite is the bent Spool, because it has a somewhat narrower and taller bowl than other cobs, It's perfect for Mac Baren roll cakes, which are thin slices of mild, flavorful rope blends. I can fit 4-6 coins of Club Blend and get a nice, long smoke.

    My dad was od the opinion that the false light was invented by match manufacturers in the UK in the early 19th century as a way of selling more matches. I simply load a pipe, light it, and start smoking.

    Cracking Cob

    sjfine, all according to how many bowls you smoke in a day, your cob could be absorbing too much moisture. Elmers Glue or pipe mud might help if it's just surface cracking, which isn't unusual. If it's unsmokable, give Marilyn at MM a call at 800-888-2109, since they do replace defective pipes.

    I use their new Danish bits for all my cobs. And yes, sometimes you do have to sand the tendons a little, since burrs can be left from the molding process.
