    Samuel Gawith - Skiff Mixture

I had been considering Skiff Mixture but I find that Squadron Leader has quite enough pepper and nicotine kick. I'll skip the Skiff I guess.

50$ to Spend On a Billiard, What Would You Buy?

This is a great thread. If I was in acquisition mode, I'd be snappin' up these ones in a hurry. I particularly like that Aldo Velani.

    Zippo Fumes?

I bought a box of wooden matches and found that I get a funny chemical taste too.

    School Me On Clay Pipes

Another pro is that they are good for Lakeland aromatics that would ghost your briars. My clays were purchased on ebay from fory63. They are made in Germany with 200 year old molds that have relief designs on the bowl. Haven't seen them for sale in a long time.

    History of Latakia Blends

That is an interesting story "piperl". One of my favorite writers and a pipe smoker too was Conan Doyle who served in the Boer War in a field hospital and then wrote a history of the Boer War. He was in fact knighted for his writing about the Boer War and not his stories about Sherlock Holmes.

    History of Latakia Blends

A quick review of old tobacco tins for sale on ebay leads me to believe that Latakia blends were not so popular in olden days as they are today. Of course there was Squadron Leader and a few others but by far codger blends, virginias and burleys predominate. When did Latakia blends become so...

    Aromatics

Appreciation for aromatics in my case is acquired through slow practice and discrimination. I am a confirmed latakia lover. I have learned that not all aromatics are created equally and it is necessary to search for a mellow high quality blend that you like. I like Caramel Rush and Raspberry...

    Scotch

For an online video course on single malt appreciation go to ralfy's youtube channel. He has some 328+ weekly videos.

    Scotch

Appreciation of single malt whisky is entirely about splitting hairs. Many of the posters here seem to have missed that the original question was about peated malts and have strayed into the realm of non-peated malts and blended scotch . . . not that there is anything wrong with that . . . I'm...

    Scotch

I understand that Laphroaig was legal during prohibition apparently because surely no one would consume it for anything but medicinal reasons.

Ardbeg, Lavagulin, Talister, Bunnahabin, Laphroig, Bruchladdich. Try them all.

    $16,000 Pipe

Check out this Dunhill. He claims that Dunhill retails them for over $30,000 Dunhill pipe on ebay

    Finally Got a Clay!

You'll be in for a big surprise if you put a bare clay stem in your mouth. The clay binds with the lining of your mouth or tongue and you'll loose some skin. Other than that you don't need to worry about cake. If you want a white pipe just put it in the fireplace fire or in the oven at high...

    P lip Pro or Con

I have several Petersons with the P-lip but I am ambivalent about that style. When I ordered a new Darwin ebony a year ago, I had it sent back to Dublin to have a fish-tail stem made for it before it was sent to me.

    G.L. Pease blends

I have been trying a number of latikia blends from G L Pease lately. My preferences are quite narrow. I look for a mellow blend without harshness or sharpness and prefer a bit of sweetness such as a hint of vanilla. Lagonda comes closest to my preference. I like Maltese Falcon and I think...

    Chess, anyone?

Great photo of your son BentMike. Chess photography works best with a small unobtrusive camera such as a cell phone placed on the table. Different methods to reduce the background can help such as telephoto or flash effects can help. Good to see you getting back into chess.

    Chess, anyone?

I organized a tournament last weekend at the Enrico Winery on Vancouver Island. One of our players was seven-year-old Rowan James, winner of the 10 and under section at the US Open. Another Jason Cao was winner of the 10 and under section at the world competition in Greece a few years ago. He...
