    Tonquin Flavoured Blends?

For what it's worth, I have smoked 1792 and tend to enjoy "heavier" nicotine blends. To me, the effect of the tonquin is what some mistakenly attribute to a high nicotine content. I certainly could be wrong. Nevertheless, I have never had the effects I experienced by 1792 when I smoke high...

    St Louis Pipe Show

Great time all around at the pipe show! This go around I focused on the tobaccos, though I couldn't resist a pipe purchase from Mattia. I wish Cornell and Diehl had a place here in St. Louis. The ability to sample the tobaccos and speak directly with those who know them best was simply...

    Its just to cold

Because I don't smoke inside my home, when it gets below 30 I typically resort to smoking in the car, or I visit the local tobacconist. The good news is that spring is not all that far off. Hope it warms up soon.

    Mason Jars with Vacuum Sealer

Does the warming of the tobacco cause in change in its taste/quality? I know heat may cause chemical reactions. Any rule of thumb on the microwave: e.g. 1 oz = 30 second, etc? Thanks for your thoughts and sharing of experience. .

What are your thoughts on this sealer applied to tobacco storage: http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Alvin-Vacuum-Sealer/?

Not sure if this belongs here, but where would quality meerschaums be purchased? I have always hesitated to purchase a meerschaum, because of my obvious ignorance regarding the quality of those offered at various outlets. I suppose I have heard so many horror stories, that I distrust everyone...

Another one bites the dust "The Tobacco Shop" in Hartford to close

Is there not a chance of relocation? I'm unfamiliar with (I'm assuming)Connecticut's policies? This seems very unfortunate if both or either store is going out of business due to rent hikes.

How often do you smoke a pipe?

1-2 times a day, about 5 days per week. I love unclearthur's post!

Never been to the Chicago show, but have heard that it is the mother of all shows in North America.

Great to know of the pipe club. How will the legislation affect meeting in public places?

    St Louis Pipe Show

Good to know of others in St. Louis who are friendly to the briar. Hope to see many of you at the pipe show in February.

    Best Bulk Tobacco?

Mattia 76 nailed it from my perspective: McClelland's 5110 (English). For a sweeter side you might try McClelland's 5100.

Mc 5100 - Topped, Cased, or Not?

Fred: Very interesting idea. Please tell me more about plantation leaf Virginia. Where do I get it? What exactly is it (thus betraying my ignorance)? Thank you!

Do you smoke on the road?

Alone driving + 30 minute drive = pipe loaded and smoking. Another pipe smoker along + 30 minute drive = pipes loaded and smoking, and the windows are cracked.

Mc 5100 - Topped, Cased, or Not?

Thanks for the information. The Pease reference brought back to my mind what I thought I read on a Pipedia page. I'll have to look that up. I suppose the more direct question has to do with the degree of casing. Would anyone object to it being labeled an English Virginia? I ask only because it...
