Are All Butane Brands Basically the Same?

I've been using a Zippo lighter with a cheap "Z-pipe" brand butane insert I got off of Amazon for $12 shipped and have been feeding it the what ever crap I can find since before joining this board. No problems at all. It's usually Zippo brand fuel, though I have a can of "Neon" brand floating...

    Need Some New Aromatics???

I was a big fan of the McClelland Chocolate Cream - so much so, I bought out the last I could find and have squirreled it away in the basement. I gave Boswell's Chocolate Cream a try. It's very different, but enjoyable. Where McClelland was like dark chocolate, the Boswell is like a rich Dutch...

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

I need to frequent tobacconists more often. Sampling via deliveries is fraught with hazards. I'm not trying to say McClelland is the end all, be all. Rather, I found a couple blends I enjoy quite a bit - bummed to see them go, and stocked up a good amount, but this will not stop me from seeking...

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

FWIW, I found another seller that had some McClelland bulk in stock - Payless Cigars and Pipes. After a couple more great bowls of #110, I regretted not getting more, so I snagged another pound. It was a little on the dry side upon arrival, but acceptable. That puts me up to 56 oz of #110, not...

    My Ebay Account Was Hacked

I discovered on Sat that my account had been hacked. They changed the address, phone number, email address and name. eBay's customer service was good and got it straightened out. I rotate my passwords, so how I was breached is a bit of a mystery. A good part of Saturday was spent running...

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

All this begs the question, "What is special about McClelland's Virginias"? I've tried others but they seem... thinner, more one dimensional. Was it their process bringing out the sugars and complexity? I'm smoking Stokkebye Black Coffee right now. It's alright, but...eh. Perhaps it's the...

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

@Anthony416 There's 24 oz. of #402 "Chocolate Creme - A satisfying, creamy blend of our best Virginias and smooth Black Cavendish flavored with chocolate." and 40 oz. of #110 "Just Plain Nut - A delightful combination of Virginias and soft, cut cake Burley Cavendish. Nutty flavor" per tobacco...

I've got this thread bookmarked. Thanks for all the great suggestions. Here's the last of my McClelland...

How Tightly Should Tobacco Be Packed in Jars For Long Term Storage?

Well, it's all sealed away. I should have bought more of the #402, 4 little jars. This is all of it. The #110 is weirdly springy. It's not dried out, it just semi-fine ribbon that fluffs back up immediately after mashing down hard. I could have fought to get it into fewer jars but would have...

How Tightly Should Tobacco Be Packed in Jars For Long Term Storage?

I think I'd need a hydraulic press to get 40 oz. into a 32 oz. jar! It'll take me a good long while to go through this. I smoke in fits and starts. A fair amount will go in 8 oz. jars for sure, but it'll take a while to get to the big ones.

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

The 1st tobacco that got its hooks into me was Tinderbox 1928 Reserve. The stupid price is what forced me to branch out, which ultimately was an enormous positive. I didnt' know it was made by McClelland until after taking a shining to them. Now is my next future favorite going to bite the...

How Tightly Should Tobacco Be Packed in Jars For Long Term Storage?

The title says it all. I have 64 Oz. of tobacco to jar up. My meager experience is every ounce of weight fills roughly 4 oz. of space reasonably tightly. Less than I'd pack the pipe, but not loose by any stretch. My McClelland stash has arrived... Most of it'll go into quart canning jars, but...

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

Ah, thank you! I didn't see that. It's getting bookmarked. On a side note, my kitchen smells fantastic at the moment just from the closed bags.

My McClelland Haul / Who Is the Best Producer of Virginias Now?

I'm very much a pipe smoking neophyte. Having tried samples where I can, I began to see a recurring theme - McClelland tobaccos. I hadn't been on the site in a while, so I missed the rumors, but a friend shared the news about their closing. Having the tax return in hand, I managed to find my...

What Time Is Your Favorite Time to Smoke?

My absolute favorite time is a crisp evening outside next to a campfire, preferably in the middle of nowhere. Following that, late at night during astronomy. Last but not least, the evening, after work and dinner.

What Do You Do With Tobaccos You Don't Particularly Care For (But Don't Hate)?

Do you store them away for a future try? Smoke them to get rid of them? Throw them into a campfire? Give them away? Pitch them? Offer them to Michipeshiu during backcountry canoeing trips? I'm curious what you fine folks do with the red-headed step child tobaccos you come into possession of...

In Defense of Smoking vs Prescription Drugs

A minor note: I've never heard of a "Peace Percocet" or "Three Zoloft Problem", have you?

I Want to be a Tinderbox guy, but......

Tinderbox.com is just expensive all 'round. They charge $12 to ship 2 50g tins that are $17.75 a piece. They charge a premium for what are ultimately "standard" Lane tobaccos. They still carry my favorite tobacco thus far (1928), but at $47 for 100g, I have to thank them for providing the...

*** What Are You Smoking?*** (August 2017)

McClelland #110 "Just Plain Nut" in a straight Falcon Extra with a smooth apple bowl. Despite the silly name, this Va/Bur bulk has struck my fancy. Mild, light sweetness, mild nuttiness as in the name but no overbearing casing. Burns clean and dry but will bite if not careful. Might just order...
