    Important Tip for Struggling Beginners

I see all the old codger 'experts' who have smoked 40+ years came out of the woodwork to make their sarcastic comments. Doing something the longest doesn't automatically make it the best way. I guess it is true- you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I never said other packing methods were...

    Bowls per day average

Actually, reading through both pages, let me take back what I said. Many members here are smoking enough every day. But how the heck does someone smoke 15 bowls in one day? 8O

    Important Tip for Struggling Beginners

I posted this in another thread, and thought I would share it again here for the benefit of new smokers... I tried every packing method imaginable, but nothing ever worked. Then everything fell perfectly into place when I started properly drying and gravity filling. It's also important to have...

    Bowls per day average

4-6 bowls a day. Every day. I agree, sparrowhawk. I thought most here would be smoking more than this. Life is too short to be smoking only one or two bowls a week. Amateurs.

Smoking to the bottom of the bowl

sthbkr77, Wet, bitter-tasting tobacco at the bottom of the bowl is a clear indication of your tobacco being too moist and/or being packed too tightly. I had these same problems for a long time until I finally figured it out. I now smoke every bowl down to a fine gray ash with no bitterness or...

    Transitioning From Aros To Non-Aros

You don't have to choose one or the other. I smoke flavorful aros (in the daytime), and Englishes (at night). Smoke what you like. MM965 and Old Dublin. Both are excellent English tobaccos with wonderful room notes. Can't go wrong with either of them. :-)

    Speed Resting A Pipe

I always wondered if something like this would work for speed drying a pipe. The LEDs produce very low heat and can be set to run for up to 30 minutes. Seems unlikely it would cause damage. Would be interesting if someone tried it and let us know...

Beginner Questions, Second Week of Pipe Smoking

One more thing.. As you are a new pipe smoker, you will not be accustomed to nicotine. In case you do overload, try taking one teaspoon of honey. It will calm your stomach. Also, only smoke on a full stomach in the beginning. The good news is that you will build up a tolerance for nicotine over...

Beginner Questions, Second Week of Pipe Smoking

Welcome to the wonderful past-time and lifestyle of pipe smoking (I hate when people call pipe smoking a 'hobby'). Try not to think or over-analyze too much. And don't worry about addiction. Pipe tobacco is not the same as cigs, and it certainly isn't as addictive because it's more natural...

    Children and smoking

didimauw, I think you are worrying over nothing. Do you or your wife really think your three year-old daughter is going to start smoking a pipe or cigar because she saw you smoking? :puffy: And regarding second-hand smoke... regardless of what some here may say, there is zero hard evidence...

    Children and smoking

Very well said, Jon. I totally agree with you. There is no hard evidence that second-hand smoke is dangerous. The US government even admitted it recently. The so-called 'progressive' socialists have practically destroyed every western country with their political correctness and cultural...
