So i made my own blend by pressing my own recipe into a kake for a few days in a homemade pvc and c-clamp press. The blend is mostly virginia with added spice from perique and orientals and latakia.
Out of the press, the tobacco is harsh for roughly the first half and then develops into what i...
Just received my first hackert. Came in a beautiful ziplock bag. The most stunning of all ziplock bags. Took my first draw to test the air flow and I got a wonderful mouthful of whatever the hell is used to coat the bowl. Looked inside and monstrous clumps of this shit was on the wall. Not...
i've never really smoked aromatics and i'm looking for tobaccos with a strong citrus topping/casing. any suggestions? i want to smoke it straight and use it for blending purposes. my ideal would be to have blasts of citrus notes on the draw right from first light.
Thanks!
this blend has an incredibly delightful sour note on the tip of the tongue right from the beginning of the smoke. it clearly has mclelland's 5100 in it, but that won't alone give the distinct sour note you get right at the start of the bowl. it's not a pressed blend, so what topping is creating...
Anyone have any experience with using molasses as a casing for pipe tobacco? What procedures can you suggest for casing a tobacco with a molasses solution before pressing it?
What quantity of molasses to distilled water (if used) to tobacco can you suggest?
Before being pressed, do you recommend...
What commonly used casing/topping would give a tobacco a very strong sugary-fruit aroma in the tin? This casing/topping would then create a sort of mellowed out smoke and amp the sourness of the izmir, though not create a sweet tobacco.
Thanks!
I've heard of many people mention McClelland's distinct acidic/sour/tart taste to their Virginia blends. Something that really lowers the ph level to get that sour on the tongue taste. A lot of people think this is due to an acidic additive they use. Any ideas what that additive may be?
Thanks!
I want to get a good understanding of what penzance tastes like, feels like, looks like. Can anyone with experience with this blend post their descriptions of its taste, room note, tin note, and possibly some high-res photos of the flake?
Thanks!
What is the difference between tang and sour when it comes to tobaccos? I asked a while ago what a good tangy tobacco was and people suggested mcclelland's 5100. It'a sweet and fruity, but not even slightly sour.
Can you recommend a sour tasting tobacco? One whose sour notes hit the tongue and...
Is it peppery spicy, is it nutty, what is it?
I've always akin-ed oriental to a floral taste (more tang). Now i'm starting to think that was the red virginias. So what flavours do orientals (Izmir) add?
In what proportions do you recommend I make a base of 5100 and 5105? I am going for a very, very tangy, though sweet blend that will be pressed.
Thanks!
I ordered some granulated perique for a blend I am making that is mainly composed of Virginias and orientals. I want a very slight spice on the retro hale. What portion of perique should I use?
What additive is applied to tobacco to keep it moist and cool smoking? What's it called and where do you suggest i get some? When should it be applied to tobacco; before pressing?
Thanks!
What Virginia + oriental blend can you recommend that has lasting very sour/tangy + oriental floral flavour notes? By lasting I mean both are prevalent to the bottom of the bowl and not completely faded by the half-way point?
Thanks everyone!
