Is Applying The Term "Engineering" To Pipe Construction Baloney?

Fair enough. I do a lot more than calculations on an day-to-day basis. Perhaps I am being too subjective with my definition. A lot of what I do can be done by non-engineers. The thing I uniquely do is the math and science to back what experienced people often already know the answer to be...

Is Applying The Term "Engineering" To Pipe Construction Baloney?

I think using the term engineering as a description of well executed pipe internals is a convenient term, and I use it regularly. That said, I don think it's a technically accurate. I am an engineer by day, and a pipe maker by night. The two activities are quite different. I am a chemical...

    Why Pennsyvania??

I stand corrected...interesting caveat. So that's why its a cigar online outlet, and pipe tobacco not so much, I guess.

    Why Pennsyvania??

No tobacco tax. Also true of Florida, which is another major center of online tobacco sales.

What is the Oldest Tobacco Tried from a Mylar Bag?

Very interesting, thanks! Sounds like I was wrong about anaerobic aging.

What is the Oldest Tobacco Tried from a Mylar Bag?

Don't confuse space with air. Just because a tin doesn't get smaller does not mean it can't have the same amount of air removed. Regardless, I really have no idea about the bio-chemistry of aging tobacco. The question I'd like to understand better is the realtionship of O2 with the aging...

What is the Oldest Tobacco Tried from a Mylar Bag?

Tins are vacuum sealed as well. It's my understanding -- but only because of what I've read from people I trust over the years -- that aging is most substantial when it becomes anaerobic. I don't know if that's true, but I believe that's the basis for keeping tins sealed to age them.

What is the Oldest Tobacco Tried from a Mylar Bag?

I year or two ago I opened an 8 oz. bag of Cairo by GLPease that was originally retailed in a Mylar bag. (It looked like the bags coffee is sold in.) It was ten years old when I opened it. The tobacco was WONDERUL. Now, this was a vacuum sealed Mylar bag, packed that way from the factory...

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

Jorge, I agree. To be clear, what are you speaking of, Todd's note or the thread at PMF? if you speak of Todd's note, the tone, especially at the end, is combative and inflammatory, thus this LONG thread. If I were Todd's editor, I would have rewritten several things. I'm not though, and Todd...

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

Cosmicfolklore, I think your stance on the jewelry situation is a wise one. You might be surprised to learn I advocate essentially the same thing in the PMF thread. In other words, I totally agree with you.

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

Trout face, I'm pretty sure those aren't turds. :) Cool stuff. Nice work! Can you relate to this conversation from the perspective of fine furniture craft?

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

cosmicfolklore, If I may address some of your concerns: The difference is a Grabow costs $12 and a cob $6.. This is not about everyone smoking high quality pipes. It's about getting a high quality pipe if you pay high-quality dollars. Also, no one is talking about regulating anything. I...

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

Warren, I was not trying to defend Todd, per se, and certainly not the way he expressed himself. I was trying to give clarity on the thread at PMF (of which Todd was certainly a part). One of the challenges of this thread is that some are talking about Todd, some are talking about the thread...

I Bring You The Pipe Turds

As a pipe maker, this conversation is dangerous to wade into. I do not want to be misunderstood and develop some sort of negative reputation. Never the less, I am going to make a comment. The discussion on Pipe Makers Forum (PMF) was not about losing sales to other pipe makers. It was about a...
