Morning Smoke?
I second the burley recommendations. IF you're a latakia smoker you probably want a little more depth than what is in the usual though... Burley London Blend is a good one, I'd also say Navy Flake and (my personal morning favorite) GLP Barbary Coast.- foldedflat

Excellent clay pipe from Dawnmist!
If you find the stickiness of the dry end annoying, dipping it in melted beeswax or paraffin (with a pipe cleaner in there to pull out after the dip) will create a nice smooth area that will last a while.- foldedflat

I tend to use a small penknife blade to peel off slivers of cake. It takes a delicate hand.. and I wouldn't do this with an expensive pipe, or a pipe that had a very flush, straight inside rim.
