    Homemade Greek Briar Soup

After boiling (which I didn't know -thanks for that tip), you dry them for how long? I may do the same with burls from other woods in my area.

    Bamboo Cavalier

Thanks, Ken. Regarding the stand, which I believe compliments the pipe, I was intrigued by how Japanese carpenters use nail less designs to join pieces. This follows that idea. Therefore, this piece, while it can be smoked, can also be a presentation piece, especially when gifting...

    Briar Lined Bamboo

Update. I just finished the first break in bowl. Just a pinch in the bottom. A blend of Captain black and OHM Bold. Which has been drying all day. Packed right, and yes, I smoked it slowly and finished it to the bottom. Wow. The result was awesome. The pipe became warm, but not hot. The...

    Briar Lined Bamboo

Ken. Yes. Briar, the new meerschaum? I did not plug the original draft hole. I believe it's proximity to the side wall will clog up. Also, the side walls are what contains the silica substrate that does not burn as easily as the node floor. It's all part of the test. saltedplug. I'm...

    Briar Lined Bamboo

I sorted through my mini bowls and found one with a few too many pits and decided to cut it down to use a liner in a Bamboo sitter. A single hole is drilled through the bottom, which matches with a hole in the node. The briar is floated 1/8 inch from the bottom of the node. Let see if this...

    Briar and Bamboo Nose Warmer

Thanks, guys. Cortez, yes it was a sort of rescue. The seller indicated that the bowls were aged about 100 years, (I have three more). Decent for a travel pipe. Small enough to enclose right into the tobacco pouch and carry in a shirt pocket. I'm good with using raw bamboo as the mouthpiece...

    Briar and Bamboo Nose Warmer

Don't laugh, this is my first serious attempt with briar. I purchased some second hand, unfinished mini bowls that were rough cut from an estate. They required a lot of sanding/polishing and were good for practice. The holes in the shanks were offset. Which was no issue as I cut the tenon...

    Hammer Time

Can't even give them away. Kidding aside, I've owned a business and work in marketing and media. On a more serious note, this is a dog. A few bucks to made on eBay for a sandwich. They take about an hour to make, and until I solve the node burning issue, are disposable or are to be...

    Hammer Time

saltedplug. Bamboo has a taste? Do you have an experience? Was it cured or still green? Maybe you'd like to try one? Cover the shipping and I'll send you one.

    Hammer Time

All good options, Ken. I like options. I like having the smoke chamber as reverse calabash in the same tube, so to speak. It does keep thing cooler by not involving the stem at the source of the heat and there's less sucking up ashes and debris, as well, (even negating the need for a filter)...

    Hammer Time

Thanks, Craig. That article is exactly what I need. I'm thinking a wood plug would be more acceptable. I already plug the smoke chamber with willow, (it's soft and yields to the bamboo when tapped in). Will have to experiment with oak. Stop by the hardware store and get a few dowels of it...

    Anyone Else Having Mold Issues?

Well. Fungus be among us. I purchase OHM because it's dry, does not require or involve additives, and I also dry out my otherwise damp tobaccos as well, (I'm not expert, it's just how I like it). I've read that anything over 14% in moisture content requires the use of anti-fungal or additives...
