    US tobacco... ship to UK?

Just placed an order with smokingpipes (thanks Joeval for the recommendation). I'll keep you updated as to how long it takes and whether I get stung by HM Customs & Revenue!

    US tobacco... ship to UK?

I've had a few excellent orders from 4noggins, and can't fault them in any respect... but am I right in thinking they are the only US supplier who ships to the UK? There are a few US blends I would love to try.. Lone Star Vanilla Custard, McClelland Caramel Rush, and the Just for Him range...

    Problem with new Peterson

Thanks. I'll have another poke at it tonight and see if I can locate it. Just to clarify - it is a new, unsmoked pipe (not an estate). Smoked great first couple of times I used it, but now (a few days later) the draw seems impeded.

    Problem with new Peterson

Can't even get it through with the stem removed! It was a private sale, so I guess my only recourse it to approach Peterson directly.

    Problem with new Peterson

Picked up a beautiful Peterson St Patricks Day special the other day. I love the look of it, but I'm having difficulty cleaning it. It's a 01 shape (ie, full bent), but I can't get a pipe cleaner down the draft hole (I can't even see it!). This is affecting the draw. Any suggestions?

    Switching pipes mid-bowl?

Does anyone here have two (or more?) pipes on the go the same time. Yesterday morning I lit up two different pipes. Smoked about 1/4 bowl, then switched to the other, then switched back again on and off until lunchtime. Does anyone else do this, or is there a risk that one might be missing out...

Other blends like Frog Morton Cellar?

Relatively new to pipe puffing, and enjoying a few different aromatics and English blends. My fav to date is - quite easily - Frog Morton Cellar. I guess I like it so much because it seems to be something of a cross-over between the two? At least it seems that way to my taste buds! Any...

    Struggling with flake

I've recently graduated into the world of flake - I've got a tin of Planta Black Vanilla and SG Kendal Cream here. They both smell wonderful from the tin, but I just can't seem to get a good 'cherry' going. Have to relight a lot, and the smoke feels light and devoid of flavour after the first...

    Is Latakia an oriental?

Basic question (and please excuse my ignorance), but is latakia an 'oriental' or does an oriental leaf refer to something separate? I've just recently graduated away from aromatics (though still turn to them occasionally), and have recently enjoyed Dunhill London Mix, Peterson's Old Dublin and...

    Painting an old briar

Thanks everyone. I have a simple, unbranded briar that I picked up for very little at an auction. It was once a beautiful thing, and it smokes very well. It has come up a bit with polishing, but the main problem is that there is char at the top of the bowl which all the rubbing in the world...

    Painting an old briar

I've a couple of old, tired looking briars and it occurred to me they might look better painted black, or white... or whatever. Can briar bowls be painted or is this an absolute no-no?

    Stingers

Thanks! Just realised that the stinger does indeed screw into the shank. Lucky I didn't pull any harder!

    Stingers

Hi guys, In a nutshell, what's the purpose of a stinger and are the generally desirable or not? On a related note, are all stingers removable or are some built into the tenon? Just picked up a vintage Kaywoodie from ebay, but the stinger seems to be stuck fast. Cheers!

    Smoking bowls in quick succession

Thanks to everyone for their advice. On reflection, I think I am smoking way too fast. I go through a bowl in 10-15 mins, then immediately refill and light another. All too often I end up with nicotine sickness and running outside for fresh air! That kinda takes away from the enjoyment and...

    Smoking bowls in quick succession

It's probably just beginner's enthusiasm on my part, but once I finish a bowl I have an immediate urge to refill and light up another one. Is this necessarily a bad idea and, if I do, should I use a different pipe? I have heard it said that a pipe should be left to cool after smoking - why is...
