My FIL loves to hunt antiques as much as I. He found a Zippo Barcroft table lighter and upon some research, here is what I
learned.
Zippo made these from the 30's to 1979 in 4 versions. The 4th model made from 1953-1979 did not change. It uses the same insert as a standard Zippo.
The one I have, can be dated from the insert to 1958+. But with the engraving it is easily dated to 1965. The "G.B. MacKenzie" referenced on the front was Ford Motor Company's General Sales Manager for several years. The was a gift to salesmen who met a certain quota for 1965.
The Barcroft was very expensive even in those days ranging up to $200. Mine is in working order as well.
It is quite heavy and is plated in 24k gold.
