Personal Opinion Incoming:
Less is more. I prefer to focus more on living my life rather than collecting junk, even if it's nice junk. I like to have nice, quality-made things (pipes especially), but I don't keep things that I don't actually use or will never feasibly have a use for. Clutter stresses me out, and it's more work to keep a cluttered space clean. I'd rather have a mostly empty space than one packed wall-to-wall with stuff.
Some people take this to an extreme, though. I call them anti-hoarders. The type of minimalists that don't own any furniture at all, own one pair of pants and one shirt, etc. As with most things, a happy medium is best.

I'd happily stay in the Zen arrangement, but cannot- will not- create it as my living space. The cluttered one would drive me nuts.

The TV and deck chair are fine, but I need the screen closer to eye level.

The formal rooms- could the posters please ID? Is one of them at Hearst Castle?
