Pumbaa: It's times like this my buddy Timon here says: you got to put your behind in your past.

Timon: No, no, no. Amateur. Lie down before you hurt yourself. It's "You got to put your past behind you."

- The Lion King (1994)
Why is it so tempting to chase after the past when it comes to pipe tobacco?
Read Greg Pease's expert dissertation, titled; "Ghost Busting".

We've embraced nostalgia and tobacco blends haven't escaped that trend it seems. Look at the retro-styled cars (VW Beetle, Mini, etc.) and motorcycles (Triumph, Ducati, etc.)which have sold so well. Creating a car or bike that performs well by modern standards, with a retro theme, doesn't always work. But, we seem to buy them anyway, at least for a while.
I just hope Mr. Pease keeps releasing these wonderful blends. Of my four touchstone blends, GLP occupies 50% of my standards. The only dilemma is there are so many more to chose from!

Great read! I have not been smoking long enough to know any of the old blends but do smoke a couple redux blends and now have a better appreciation for their blending :D

Done!

My last trip to a VA tobacconist for some elusive "Maltese Falcon" (gift for a pipe buddy) was successful, yielded a dilemma for that small shop. The shop owner said there were too many GLP blends to maintain a full inventory. He just rotates through them and determines which sells the best.

I think some of us have fond memories of the old blends and can relate certain times

in our lives that go with a special blend. Like for example the blend you smoked at your

sons wedding or your own for that matter!

I like trying new stuff so I don't think I will ever care if something leaves production as long as I have a little put back for future revisits to what I used to love
