Hi everyone;
I am about to get several estate pipes. In case they have some ghosts, what blends/brands do you recommend in restoring them to a more neutral state? I know Burley can help with this, but am having trouble finding ones without topping.
Thanks in advance.

North Georgia mountains.
Five Brothers is my go-to. If they don't need reeming, I'll do a coffee grind clean, then clean that out once the coffee is dry. I'll then run a few bowls of Five Brothers.
This is only if the bowl has any kind of ghost I'm trying to rid it off. Most estates I buy come cleaned and ready to smoke. But Five Brothers is my choice.

I usually use Granger or Prince Albert. Any relatively neutral burley seems to work. About the same as breaking in a pipe. I've experimented with smoking intentionally hot to see if that would 'boil off' the undesired smells but I'm not really sure about it.

I've seen several references to coffee ground but I have never tried this. Damp as in used grounds or fresh ground coffee? Anything added such as alcohol? I use salt and alcohol but coffee is a new one to me.

I use coffee grinds to hopefully soak up the old ghosts then smoke Carter Hall or Prince Albert a bunch of times after that.
damp coffee grounds can do wonders. Had a pipe go sour and the usual cleaning did nothing. I was going to throw it out (it was cheap) tried the coffee grounds method (just used the "waste" from my morning cup) and it smoked like new. Tasted like coffee for a few smokes. When I say that pipe went sour it was one hundred percent unsmokable and I clean lots of nasty blown up toilets for a living so if it grosses me out it's gross.

Technically, Lakelands will exorcise an existing ghost... the new one will kick the old one right out. 😜
On that basis Mixture 79 might be a good choice. That perfume/musk note has real staying power. Or maybe Rattrays Exotic Passion. I made the mistake of smoking one bowl of that in a dedicated Va flake pipe and none of my usual tricks have exorcised that demon ghost.

Here's a real beginner question and have a good laugh!

Re: coffee grind method. You stuff the pipe with the used grinds and let it sit, dump and dry or ???

Thanks

I have used Balkan Sasieni to eradicate ennerdale...and that was when ennerdale was potent.

...and I love ennerdale, just decided I didn't want it in that particular pipe.
