My Son called from Houston wanting to vent about LSU losing their first game with UCLA, after a 10 minute tirade he says

How"s PMon doing? I told him that"s a chewing little sap-sucker, son says I know how you are Dad, you got to go to Pet Smart and get him some chew toys. I told him Son that"s what branches and pine cones are for. He started laughing and said you ain"t never gonna change. I said Nope.

One time I was wandering through the grocery and passed the small cat toy display, the usual

stuffed mice and under-sized fishing pole toys, all somewhat overpriced for what they were.

Some bored stock boy or clerk had hung on the display two sewing thread spools suspended

from pieces of random yarn. I laughed and wondered if I should add a cardboard box from the

back of the store. Perfect. Maybe a slightly used emery board, and especially a live mouse.

No American dog or cat should be deprived of a box full of toys manufactured in a Chinese slave factory and marketed by a transnational corporation. But I guess PMon’s just gotta be different.

I used to think my oldest chocolate lab was part beaver. When he got nervous or really excited he would run off and grab a branch from the stick pile and plop down and start gnawing on it.

igloo is onto something.
I don't know who the laser pointer entertains more. My goofball kids or the cat.

We've bought our various cats dozens of toys designed to look cute and attractive to us, the consumers, not necessarily to the cats. They'll play with them sometimes, but their favourite toys by far are empty boxes, shrink-wrap plastic, which they love to chew on (but fortunately, they don't try to swallow) and, best of all, Christmas wrappings & ribbons. When they lose interest in a particular box, we just move it to a new location in the house, and, presto! it becomes a new toy.
Save your money and give them sticks, pine cones, boxes and wrappings. But guard your house plants well!

Anyone see that dog on some animal intelligence documentary that knew the names of dozens of his stuffed toys? You'd throw them all in a pile and say get me the pig and he would. There were like fifty of them.
The scientist guy decided to test him and added a new toy he hadn't seen to the pile, asked for it, and the dog figured out that must be the one he didn't know, and brought it back correctly.

Just show my cat Boomer a paper bag and she'll beam right in. Every box is handy for a cheek scratch.

My dog won't let me clear branches from the yard when I have to cut the grass; I'll pick up a few and toss them in the pile and when I go to get the others he'll have dragged some back out over the lawn. Sometimes he won't even let me get to the pile he'll just take them out of my hands. Funniest thing ever; I can't help but laugh every time.

My cat's absolute favorite toy is a pipe cleaner. I swear she pulls them out of the trash somehow and I find them everywhere. I even got her to play fetch with it which I never thought a cat , especially our lazy ass cat, would do.

OK, I admit it. Gracie has Lupine harnesses in almost every color (made in USA), special shampoos because she has Terrier skin issues, special dog food because she has digestive trouble, and toys - which my wife promptly washes because China uses chemical on their exports for the bugs. If we could FIND "made in USA" toys, that would be the only thing brought into the house. Yes, Gracie knows the names of her toys.
It makes my wife happy to pamper the dog, our grandchildren live far enough away that it's not possible to pamper them much. I can't complain, she never bats an eyelash when I want something pipe or tool related.
When we had a cat, Lily loved Coke boxes. All you would see out of the finger holes were bright blue eyes.

I'm not sure about dogs, but I am certain we did not domesticate cats; they domesticated us. And we've

done very nicely for them, proven to be easily trained on any number of stunts and tasks. Good job,

Fluffy!

My Bulldog demands tennis balls. I buy them at sporting places in bags as used, or worn out 2nds. I dont know exactly what that means but they are cheap. She has 3 at a time and before she will sleep has to have one within paws reach. When she is done with one she breaks it in half, we throw that one away and produce another.
2nd favorite toy is this giant rock she carries around in the yard. I have to tell her to go get her rock, (before I mow) and she will put it on the porch.

Dervis. My dream dog is either an English Bulldog or a English Mastiff. Like Pipes, the English know how to make em.
