This may sound strange, but i noticed today with one of my traveling pipes (Medico straight briar) that after smoking it, I came inside to put away my lighter and tool that when i had washed my hands there was an area of the grip of my hand between thumb and forefinger that was a yellowish hue. Obviously this is primarily where the bwol would sit when holding a pipe. I would assume it is due to the cheap pipe, but the tobacco i tried today burnt a bit warmer than normal, not hot but warmer. Could this be a cuase fr the stain or dye to rub off onto my hand?? Hadnt seen it before, any ideas?

That'd be my guess. I have a lower end Brindisi which I use as a driving pipe that did the same thing. Got the bowl a little warmer than usual and when I held the bowl some of the stain came off onto my fingers. I will say it only happened a couple of times and hasn't happened again since. It's been about six months since it happened and I smoke that pipe regularly.

So it would seem it is a combination of the quality aannd heat. Good to know, cant wait to be home and use some of my better quality pipes with a few better quality tobaccos:) Thanks for the quick response.

You're welcome.
I ducking hate when autocorrect ducks up my sentences!
One thing I did think about was sanding it down and restaining the bowl myself. I haven't really gotten into that though, so I wouldn't have any idea of what type of sandpaper is best to use and what type of stains are best to use etc. .

Could it not have been some of the smoke residue? I mean if it was a red pipe and your fingers were red after smoking, I would say sure there's your problem. Since its yellow that makes me wonder if its not just yellowing from the smoke.

I thought maybe the tobacco, but it seems strange that it was centralized in particular point. Normally tobacco stains wouldn't show up after a single smoke. I could understand fingertips, but not the meaty portion of the palm. To answer the question about the tobacco, it was two different aro's. One of lower quality, and one of much higher, both with the same result.

If not pipe stain, I would still guess some finish wore off, e.g., was, polish, etc.Suggest you rub the pipe down with a polish cloth.
I had a Joh's that stained my fingers for the first half dozen or so smokes. Turned me off to the mfr. They do have some nice lines, though.

Pax, thanks for the tip on the polish cloth. I'm not all that worried about it. Medico is neccisarily known for theyre highest quality pipes, and i dont expect them to be. Its a decent smoker for a cheap travel pipe, which is probably the only reason I've kept it.

I have this same issue. I only have a Peterson pipe that was given to me as a gift. The pipe smokes great and I love it, but it leaves that yellow stain on my hands you'really talking about. I just assumed it was the tobacco. I'm not overly concerned about it. Like I said I love the pipe. It just looks nasty.
