Hello all. This is not intended to be a review but rather an informational post on a new soft flame lighter from Xikar.

Xikar released this new dual soft flame lighter a few months back. It retails on their site for $76.99 LINK but I was able to get it at a local Tinderbox for $52 thanks to an Independence Day sale on all Xikar products.

It's focused towards cigars but in my brief experience, works well for pipes too. The jets are angled horizontally like a standard IM Corona Old Boy so it works perfectly in this regard.

I wanted a lighter that was bulkier and suitable as an indoor only lighter for my smoking space. It has a plastic wheel on the bottom to adjust the flame. That wheel is recessed in the base plate but is easy to adjust with a fingernail or tamper tool.

The flame can be both small enough as not to scorch a pipe rim and adjusted to be large and hot enough to toast and light a cigar with ease.

I believe my favorite features on the lighter are the roll bar and fuel window. In similar fashion to a S.T. Dupont, the roll bar for striking is large and hefty with a great tactile feel. The fuel window has a neat prism effect, turning red where fuel sits and silver to show empty space, a feature I really wish other lighters in my collection had.

In all, I'm happy with my purchase. I believe the Xikar warranty is also a plus but the excessive branding may be a turnoff for some. They sure are proud of the name 🤣

Hope this helps someone in making an informed purchase ✌🏼

I like it a lot. Flint roller, soft flame and butane fuel. Xikar's warranty is exceptional which is why it's the only brand of lighter that I will buy. I have been eyeing several Xikar softflame lighters like the Meridian, the Resource II and the Pipeline.

I need another lighter like I need a hole in the head, which is what I typically say just before buying another lighter.

I've owned and used the Resource lighter for more than 15 years and when piping I'm never without it. It's all you need: lighter, tamper and scraper.
The Resource II is the newer version, though I can't tell the difference.

Do you use it outdoors or strictly indoors?

bootlegpipes, I use it both inside and outside. If it is unusually windy, it's a little more difficult to keep lit, but I don't fill the bowl to the top and the flame can be directed into the bowl without scorching the rim.
