Did the prices & bidding wars for Barling’s Make Family Era go insane all of a sudden? Sure seems like it (with the Family Era inflation ratcheting up the Corporate Era prices too). Or was the Barling’s market crazy like this a couple-three years ago & I just didn’t notice (because I was pretty much only eyeballing Danes then)? Meanwhile I see plenty of Charatan’s Make Selects at honest-to-gosh regular guy prices. Crazy.

Barling prices slid in the couple of years preceding the pandemic and then rebounded as buyers had more time on their hands.
Currently, a number of very rare unsmoked 19th century Barlings from the March 28th auction of the Laxey Pipe Factory Museum collection have been appearing on eBay, and these are selling at premium prices.
But overall, prices on Barlings haven’t kept up with inflation.
Any unsmoked Barling commands a premium price.

I’ve seen the Laxey Collection listings & those for sure are unique. And I’d expect really anything unsmoked from any of the family-era marques to be steep. But it seems like everything YOW is going for $200+ lately & that’s not how I remember it. Just a trick of perception I guess.

It depends on model and condition. I haven't seen YOWs larger than an EL going for under $200, that were in good condition, for better than a decade.

I should also add that there are some eBay sellers who clearly don't know market rates, or who think that we don't, who are asking delusional prices. These don't sell.
Truer words were never spoken. I’m on eBay for all kinds of collectible things besides pipes. A certain type of seller has become a meme: “NO LOWBALLERS I KNOW WHAT I’VE GOT!”
