Ah, found a bio of the Reverend. It sounds as if he had to contend with an obnoxious Customs & Excise and poor media too. I wonder if his pamphlets are still knocking around? Valuable knowledge and experience there, I'm sure.

Thanks for posting. Sent me down the rabbit hole, albeit only briefly, to find out more about the "Baccy Parson" Hugh Cuthbert. He had an interesting life and became the leading advocate for homegrown tobacco in Britain. He was the Vicar of Tilty and supported his parish to some extent with his tobacco crop.

This made me laugh. Hats off to the pipe smokers!

The video was made three years after WW2 in Europe ended, and the US was still fighting in the Pacific. Maybe a tobacco shortage was a real thing thenin the UK. Kind of curious
