I just really like what he offers and at the price. The highest grade I own is a C (middle of the road) but they are all beautiful to me, even the Crowns, which are his lower cost series. I didn’t buy the Crowns because they are low cost, I just like them. On his fancier ones you get some interesting bands…I don’t know what they are made of.

IMG_1341.jpegShow me your P. Winslow pipes please and expound upon why you like them.
I own 6 now. Some really small ones, but now this. Inagural smoke is Petit Robin, capped with some very dry Autumn Evening that has been lingering on the tray for two weeks. The AE infuses every puff lightly on the back end, and this big briar hunk smokes nicely .

I had about a dozen, back in 2018. They all were really great and a Crown would have as good briar quality for smoking as the high grades; except, I had a hard time with how narrow the boring was on the bottom on the tobacco chamber.
I had to give them up. I prefer wider bottoms (no pun, here 😂), it allows me to smoke more out of my pipeful.

You have a type for sure. I’m not a grain chaser but his grains always look sharp to me. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t really have a type or chase grain. These are just great smoking pipes that I have kept. I’ve gotten rid of a few that weren’t the greatest, generally Crowns. Here is a pic of another Winslow. It’s from the Zar collection from 2015. Absolutely a great smoking pipe. It’s in my current rotation and was in my pipe bag. IMG_3837.jpegIMG_3838.jpeg

That’s pretty cool, though I’m not familiar with the Zar collection. I really don’t know anything about any sub lines he has done, which makes me wonder if he has any other perhaps more adventurous collections. He has only been on my radar a few years and I’ve heard he has retired though I’m unsure. He seems under-celebrated to me. For example, I feel similarly priced Nordings don’t offer as nice of grain, and the briar density feels different. Not that I don’t love Nordings but they aren’t under-celebrated. I feel like in general Winslows may be underpriced.

I think Winslow’s Crown pipes are a terrific value, I have two of them. I would probably strive to get more of them (the briar is almost always wonderful), but I often can’t get behind the design and the shapes. I don’t have any of his higher grade pipes, partly because the Crown series is so good it’s very difficult to justify the purchase of the superior ones, given the price tag and how many pipes I already have.

This pipe is a Viking, so the lowest grade Winslow makes, but you really wouldn’t know it. I got it for a song at a local club swap/sale, the price was cut down several times as nobody wanted it. Can you believe it! The pipe reminds me of some sort of exotic flower, the colour is difficult to capture, but to me it’s striking. For my taste, it easily outclasses many of the better grades of Crown I’ve seen over the years, and even some of the higher-grade Winslows in terms of looks at least.
