Well, I finally made it to a meeting of the newly formed Winchester VA pipe club. They meet monthly at the wonderful, JB Hayes pipe shop. There were about nine members there including pipe maker Abe Herbaugh. I always enjoy hearing about what Abe has on the bench. I was surprised and pleased to see a primarily young group of pipe smokers versus some old foggies (well, like me...) It's nice to finally have a club in my area and the setting couldn't be better. They had a raffle and my friend Dave (from another pipe forum) won a Mark Tinsky Christmas pipe.

Al,
Looks like a great time and that pipe was quite a nice thing to be won in a raffle. I am happy to see more pipe clubs popping up and with such young smokers. This lets me know our hobby won't die out when we all eventually do.

I agree. I had brought with me a number of the Sutliffe tins that the Philly Club always gifts folks that their meetings. These young college guys devoured them! They had a blast opening, smelling and smoking the various aro-tins (not my cup of tea). I was glad they didn't go to waste, I don't think these guys have a lot of spare tobacco money.

The guy in the green shirt was "initiated" into the club............nah, just smoke!
They meet on the 1st Tuesday and 3rd Sunday of every month. Their facebook page has reminders:

(I actually used my point & shoot, but it was super-smokey in there!)

It is encouraging to see more young people take up the briar.
Well done.

Another fun meeting last night. Maker Abe Herbaugh gave us a review of his Chicago Pipe show experience. The gentleman in the foreground, right side is a big Don Carlos collector and I was able to handle a number of those pipes (I had never seen one to that point).

The September meeting was last night, a small but passionate group. One member had just returned from a trip to Ireland and he brought along a number of Euro-Blends. Most were aromatics (really dense plugs). But, I found Hamborger Veermaster much to my liking.
