I just got this one , it looks kinda rough but 17 bucks for a Willmer straight grain, I think I can deal even with jacked up nomenclature on the right side. Im looking to a really comfortable stem as one other member here has stated about Willmer's before.

Congrats on your new pipe, it should clean up very nicely. I have a Wilmer AAA Straight Grain and it is a fantastic smoker. It is one of the finest pieces of briar I have in my collection. It smokes incredibly cool, I can puff like a mad man and it will not heat up. I did have mine altered as the stem was too constricted and now it smokes even better than it did when I first bought it. I think Willmer is one of the best, least known English brands. I owned 2 at one point but sold one as it was just too big for my flakes but that one also smoked great. I have owned pipes from Dunhill, Ashton, Charatan, Ferndown, Sasieni, Astley and GBD and only Ferndown was in the same league as my Willmers. Let us see it when you clean it up.

Congrats on getting the Willmer.
That being said I must say that Willmers are awful pipes. I have a rack full of them which I am keeping out of the general population as a service to pipe smokers everywhere. I am grudgingly willing to assist others in properly disposing of any Willmers they may have inadvertently allowed into their pipe collection.
The word seems to have gotten out on Willmer. The prices on the higher grades have really been climbing over the last year. All of my Willmers smoke beautifully regardless of their grade and have extremely well cut and comfortable bits. I agree 100% that Willmers are at least as good as any of the bigger name British pipes, bar none.
Happy smoking with your new Willmer snagstangl.

Hi Snag,
The former owner loved this pipe and you have some work to do to restore it but you got a great deal.
Barry Jones and Kennedy Barnes had respect for Willmer and thought that he was making fine pipes. I didn't know Willmer as they did but the quality in their work was obvious and they used some really fine briar.
Have a blast with it and enjoy.
Regards,
Pete

I think this pipe will soak up restoration like a sponge and reward every hour you spend on it. That Dublin/zulu/yacht shape is a classic, and if the briar is good, and the grain a little showy, you will have something spectacular when it's done. The fact that someone lit it up a lot is a good clue as to its smoking characteristics. The pipes many fans will look forward to seeing the after pictures. Terrific price for starters.
