...Well she's never even took a puff of tobacco in any form, but lucky me, she loves the smell of Lat blends the best!

Wife is an avid perfume collector, which can get expensive, but makes it easy for me when birthdays and anniversaries roll around. I often find myself with a wrist in my face, smelling the latest parfum. Likewise I often have her bury her nose in the latest tin to tell me any essences she can detect. Over time I have learned she perks up the most when she detects "campfire" coming from the tin. Sitting out back puffing Lat reminds her of friends and family hanging out around a fire. She loves the note.

All the negative talk, the bad reviews, terrible room note... old burnt socks... etc... I always knew she was a little wacky but, anyone else as lucky as me?

I've never experienced either sex complaining about the woodsmoke scent in a cabin or house with an often used fireplace. The house is pretty well saturated with the aroma. Is there a difference with that and latakia? Nevertheless, most people seem to disdain or, at best, tolerate smoldering latakia. Could it be they think that "a pipe shouldn't smell that way," based on limited experience with more agreeable weed? I really don't know. It is a bit of a clash with civilians' expectations, I suppose.

I have to admit, if I plan on smoking in pubic, my tobacco choice is definitely affected. But why? I've never had anyone complain, quite the opposite actually. Has to be that I have been brainwashed from reading so many reviews for so many years. OTOH I have been known to fire up a real stinker of a cigar at the casino in a usually futile attempt to keep people at bay.

makes sense. A lot of ingredients in parfum would be terrible by themselves or at least harsh. One of two things are happening either she enjoys parfum so much because she's got a more developed sense of smell natural or has trained he sniffer to smell things as a whole more then just top more obvious notes. And latakia isn't just a strong thing that takes over a blend it effects how everything else in the blend comes across. I guess what I am saying is it makes sense to me.

When I bought my first Latakia blend from the local blender he said it had a bad room note. So, after I used it I didn't think it was bad. My daughter was over and I asked if she thought it was unpleasant to which she said not at all.

You're probably on to something. She does love tobacco as a base perfume note. I started looking for a Lat perfume but no luck. Sometimes she smells like a well seasoned humidor. Yum.

I guess historically thinking, it's "granpa's aro's" that are embedded in a lot of minds... so, I proclaim 4th of July weekend as "Lat Bomb Weekend" so we can gauge where the country is these days on "stinky" tobacco.

I've said before that Latakia reminds me of lapsang souchong smoked tea. Maybe there is a sort of fireplace or meat smoker resemblance, but nothing I'd find repulsive.

Some time back I was parked outside a convenience store, waiting on a buddy, smoking some English blend (probably 965) in my truck with the windows down. A woman approached the truck, and I thought, "OK, here we go." and got ready for yet another antibacco lecture.

Instead she said, "Can I stand by your truck?" I said, "Sure" and that was the end of the conversation.

She just stood there with her back against the truck, taking in the smell of the pipe smoke, until my buddy returned. Then she turned to me again, said "Thanks" - and I could see that she was a little misty, then she walked off.

I think about her whenever folks start putting down Latakia’s room note.
