I had to try this, and I'll have to smoke it from time to time, if only for theological reasons. (I'm an elder in the PCA.)

Still, for all its storied history, I didn't find it particularly legendary. Solid, decent taste, not really that distinctive to my palate. If I smoked a lot more, I can see it as a mild tobacco for all day. But I'm more a bowl or two a day kind of guy, so when I have my pipe, I want some oomph and something a bit more interesting

I had to look up what PCA is... Presbyterian Church in America. Either that or Porsche Club of America, but since it's Presbyterian Mixture you have a picture of, I'm going with my first guess.
Presbyterian is one of those, to borrow the word, "Storied", blends that I've wanted to try. I'm somewhat apprehensive though, since I read of the "storied" Peterson's Old Dublin, which was NOT a great smoke for me. As a matter of fact, I didn't like it at all. This said, my interest is again piqued. When you say mild, in what way is it mild? Are we talking Vitamin-N content or more of a I'm smoking flavorless ash?

While I don't believe Covenant theology, I used to attend a PCA church in college. I admire the denomination's firm commitment to scripture.
Never tried this blend. If I develop a taste for English blends, I might try it.

Please don't think I am being crass......if its ok by everyone. Would you explain Presbyterian-ism, or sum it up a bit?

@Lordnoble: Yes, pretty low "vitamin N" as I perceived it. By no means a flavorless smoke, just mild. As I said, if i were an all-day type of smoke, I could see smoking a lot of this, because it is pleasant without being overwhelming.
@rybo: I wouldn't have a theological quibble with a brother form the ARP. (We'd part ways on exclusive psalmody, but it would be a wonderful discussion over a nice pipe.) Of course, we'd have to smoke this blend while chatting. I got it here.
@locopony: In quick, practical terms, Presbyterian is going to mean a certain theology (starting at the very base a view called Calvinsim ) and certain way of organizing churches (elders and deacons managing the spiritual and physical needs, respectively, of the congregation; the Pastor answering to the Session (the group of elders) as opposed to running the show). Here's a link to my church with lots more info.
In simplest terms, it means I'm a sinner, saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. I'd love to share with you about it, but in respect of the TOS here, probably ought to do it off line. Let me know if you want me to do that.

That would be great. I would love to learn about your faith system. Send me a pm and friend me. I would do this but I am using a black berry and many site functions don't work.

rybo, that's nifty. He's got a great pedigree -- and there's something so very Presbyterian about a Scottish burr.
We're actually going to be in Columbia on our Great Southern Loop Road Trip in August.

The name also grabbed my attention when I first came across it years ago. It's a pretty good blend - not among my top five, but still quite good.

may be a little off topic but who am i to judge.

while not a religious person favoring one denomination or another i tend to think if there was a church on the same street of every religon this world has to offer i believe the good Lord would praise everyone.

another thing i believe to basically be true. six days to create, one to rest, on the eight day man created religion and right or wrong good or bad off to a good start.

I didn't care for the Presbyterian blend, ( or the church which I was a member for 15 years), and the pastor did run the Session, whether or not they thought they controlled things.

It's a solid blend. Not sure of the strength in the N dept. but I'd say if you like nightcap that this would hit some of those cords. Again, no idea of the vitamin N in it compared to nightcap.
But to me they're both middle of the road blends. To me.

I had one tin of Presbyterian Mixture and liked it a lot...underrated imo. Plan to get more.
Regarding the “Jewish tobacco” question, below is a blog entry related to the subject...not specifically about pipe tobacco blends, but still an interesting read.

As a Reformed Presbyterian of Northern Irish heritage, I must say the blend fits well with the name...a good, simple, reliable, english blend with nothing fancy, nothing new, and certainly time tested. However, with a bit more to offer than some Puritan style straight Virgina's. Just like Presbyterians. I suppose you might have to be one to understand the similarities. FYI, this seems to be getting a little hard to come by lately.
