For the same reason I don't drive a BMW. While I would enjoy the quality, I have yet to find a vendor who would sell it to me at the price I am willing to pay.

I won't smoke anything I don't own. I will say thanks to this forum, buying pipes has become a wonderful part of the hobby. Petersons have an undying reputation for quality among briar brothers. I'll let them speak for Petersons.

They make some very good pipes, some might even be great.

But, I chew up the stems.

I had two, and chewed them (P-lips) almost beyond recognition.

I traded with Arthur, for two pipes sight unseen.

For me a good trade.

Winton, Peterson makes a fine pipe, but not what I'd equate to a BMW (considering they start around $55 or $60 brand new).
Havoc, I don't think any of us will smoke a pipe we don't own. That's just common courtesy (and good hygiene).

Bigvan, it was just my round about way of saying the only reason I don't smoke a Peterson is cause I haven't bought one.

The draw on my Peterson Donegal Rocky 80s (bulldog) is very open and free, and it gives the smoke

a thin feeling -- as though there is an air leak in the pipe. So I only use it with rubbed-out Virginia

flakes, which it seems to like pretty well.
It's one damn comfortable and well made pipe though. When I stick a round toothpick into the stem

it starts to draw like a normal pipe -- but that's a big PITA. I won't buy another one, or recommend them to anyone.

I got one Pete with a p-lip at a pipe show. I found I don't like the p-lip and the pipe gets hotter than hell no matter what I try to smoke in it or how slow I try to smoke it.

I like my Petersons - i own four. They all smoke well - two are P-lips and two are fishtail. I use a special packing method for them, which is to wad up the tobacco on the bottom of the bowl, leaving some air space, and packing very tight on top. I smoke a lot of MacBaren Club Blend, which is easy to pack this way.

I've said before here that I love Petes of standard configuration. They are a good value for the money.
I will NOT buy another one with a P-lip or a System. The former burn the roof of my mouth and the latter are just nasty things.

"I tried two and both had a bad draw , so I quickly traded them off . Perhaps I will try a older estate someday"
Igloo, If you were smoking a bent, it is possible that some one did the bend without putting a pipe cleaner in the bit. That can cause the airway to flatten. sent a Pete off to get a replacement bit and when it came back the draw was terrible. It can be fixed by heating the bit till it straightens out some and then put a cleaner in , heat and rebend. cleaner keeps it from collapsing.

I have 5 Petersons. 4 w/a fishtail and 1/w a P-Lip. I love each one of them and have had no troubles at all. Maybe I'll catch up to Arthur one day.......

I won't smoke a Peterson.....'cause I've already got one Pete going.
I love Peterson's, 'specially the P-lips, they fit my dental landscape perfectly!
